Re: Chocolate Chip Cookies?

  • I love love love these, they're a Levain Bakery knockoff

You can take out the m&m's and sub in 2 c. semi sweet (or whatever kind of chocolate) chips.

  • Okay so I posted my favorite, but it also helps to know what you like in a cookie.

Crisper and flatter, thick and chewy, more cake-like?

The ones I gave you are more chewy the longer you refrigerate them. I usually make the dough, let it rest overnight, then bake them the next day. If you just bake them straight from the mixer, they're more cakey. If you add 1/4-1/3 c. less flour, they'll be flatter and more crisp. Also more brown sugar makes a chewier cookie, more white gives you a crisper cookie. Baking powder results in cake like, baking soda is more chewy.

A TON of people like Alton Brown's "The Chewy" chocolate chip cookie.

  • Thank you, Ashlee! I think I'll use the Easter color M&M's. Cute!

  • My mom makes choc chip cookies just using the recipe from the Nestle chocolate chip bag, adding extra choc chips and taking them out of the oven just a little bit early. They are the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted.

  • To me, it doesn't matter what recipe you use... the secret is in creaming the sugar & butter.

But I usually use this: http://www.marthastewart.com/281905/soft-and-chewy-chocolate-chip-cookies

  • I usually make the Toll House recipe.  Now I want Ashlee's though after her description!

  • I just found this recipe that looks amazing. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/oatmeal-coconut-chocolate-chip-cookies-recipe/index.html

(anyone want to tell me how to make a word a clicky link, if that makes sense?)

I'm going to make Ashlee's cookies with Easter M&M's next week and the cookies I linked today.

    Yum.

I figured this out recently myself. Just highlight the word, then click on the little link symbol and paste the link in the box, and it will make the word clicky.

Oh, and you suck. I'm now seriously craving chocolate chip cookies. I almost never want sweets and now I'm dying for a cookie. Not cool jodippls, not cool.

    Edited for spelling.

Thank you! I knew it had to be simple.

I'm watching The Secret Life of an American Teenager and Grace was making chocolate chip cookies (as she always is) and I had the bright idea that I should also make cookies. Now I have to go buy chocolate chips.

I originally saw it on Good Things Catered which has since been deleted (WTF happened to katie #s?, but luckily I found a blog that had the recipe.

The halving of the balls of dough is amazing.  It makes a big difference IMO.

  • I have a confession.  I've never made good chocolate chip cookies.  They always taste good, but the texture sucks.
  • I made the Oatmeal Coconut Chocolate Chips that I linked and they're good but not great. The layer of chocolate didn't fully harden like the recipe said it would so I stuck them in the fridge after waiting about 2 hours. It was pretty humid yesterday so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. H said he really likes them but they're not as chewy as I wanted. I'm going to try Ashlee's recipe next week so send with H for Easter dinner (I'll be at work).
