S/O of all the dog talk: PIP your pet and their favorite toys

So, long story short, my soon-to-be 19 year old daughter is moving into her first apartment with some friends.  Yeah, I know, don't get me started...

but the upshot of this is, we are inheriting Riley, who has always been "the family dog", but she claims as "hers", since her name was on his adoption paperwork.  However, now she can't take him with her because he's a big dog and the apartments have a 25-lb. size limit.  We're cool with this because we all love Riley to death, but since his care hasn't been really "my" responsibility, I haven't made much effort to buy him toys and treats.  Of course, now, I'm like a kid in a candy store!

I thought it might be nice to get some ideas for what other people's pets like to play with.  Here's what we got him last night:

A stuffing-less Loofah Dog.  Riley LOOOOVES his Loofah Dogs, but he guts them, which is disturbing to me, especially since he likes to carry around their headless bodies.  So I was pleased to find this guy:

Riley doesn't particularly care for being interrupted during his Loofah stalking. Please excuse the packing material guts on my floor.  This is why Riley needed new toys:

Ron and I thought this rubber chicken was AWESOME!:

Riley, not so much. (This is right before he ran away from it):

Please share your babies' favorite treats, too.  Right now, he has some Three Dog Bakery bones in cheddar flavor and half a pack of Beggin' Strips.  I'm cool with the Three Dog Bakery ones, but my family doesn't eat a lot of processed food, so I don't think my dog should, either.  The Beggin' Strips probably won't be coming back, once he finishes this package.

Re: S/O of all the dog talk: PIP your pet and their favorite toys

  • I only have a kitty these days. Grimmy (grime-y, as in dirty)

Her fav toy is anything we can stuff this in..

  • This is Dottie's baby.  Seriously.  If you ask her where her baby is, she will go get it.  She actually has twins at our house, and one at my parents' house (where she spends a lot of time).

If she's been gone, even just for a ride in the car, she runs back in the house and locates at least one of them.  As soon as we walk in the door after being gone (or if anyone comes over), she goes and gets her baby and brings it to us/our guests to show us.

It makes a sheep noise, and almost any time it "cries" she will lick and lick and lick it.  It's adorable.

(I set this picture up...but she really does often sleep with it)

Also, you mentioned treats.  These are her new favorite things (she has a bad hip, and these seem to be helping...and she loves them!):

She also loves Jumbones and Greenies.  Other than that, she's not a big treat eater...never has been.  When they give her treats at drive thrus (like the bank), I always have to drive off so we don't hurt their feelings when she doesn't eat them.

  • I'll have to take some pics tonight and post!

Erin-  Oscar used to have a rubber chicken to.  The kids in our wedding gave it to him for his 1st birthday.  After about a month Oscar chewed a hole in the head and we had to throw it away, which was okay with us b/c we noticed the red on the head and feet would rub off on the floor and walls when we tossed the thing for fetch!

Also, we have a Three Dogs Bakery.  In the past we've gotten Osc cakes from there!

Megan - We used to give Oscar Greenies (which he loved), but there's been a lot of bad press about it so we stopped.  I'm not sure if you're away, but just FYI. Although of course now that I googled it I can't find the article I'm thinking of.

Interesting!  I've not ever heard anything bad about them.  They're so expensive that she really doesn't get them that often, so I guess that's a good thing!

    Thanks for letting me know!

  • I am going to have to look into that stuffing free loofah dog.  I haven't seen them when I've shopped for pet toys.  Miley is not really into toys, but Daisy LOVES them.  She destroys stuffing filled toys and I was sick of cleanng it up, so we no longer buy them.  She doesn't really like rubber toys though, although she will chew a nylabone.  That loofah dog is perfect for her because she seems to prefer soft toys/

  • I'm posting this pic, because she seriously much prefers any sort of trash over any real toys.  And most real toys, she won't really play with until after they break.  lol

Jaz's favorite toy is the frisbee.  :-)

Jaz doesn't really like other dogs (she's just never been around many of them and they make her nervous) so when BIL & SIL got these two puppies, she was NOT pleased.  So here she is, giving them a the total side-eye.  LMAO  Poor girl.  :-(  But the pic makes me laugh.

My dog chews through almost anything. He LOVES ropes:

    image

    and stuffed animals:

    image

But he destroys them so quick its a waste of money. SO he does get Black Kings and de-stuffed animals:

    image

And his all time favorite....Sticks....he goes BSC when he gets outside.

    image

As far as treats go he's not too big on that. He'll chew a raw-hide once in a while, maybe a jumbone. Most the time I put peanut-butter in his Kong though.

Walmart.  And they're CHEAP...Riley's was less than 3 dollars.  I normally avoid Walmart like the plague, but I may be going back for more of these.

  • I don't have pics on this computer, but Whiskey loves rope toys and kongs and Jack loves anything that Whiskey is playing with (until she gives it to him, then he drops it and goes back to following her around) Odie is almost 12 and not big on playing with toys, period.  We don't give a lot of treats ever, but if we do it is either denta-bones or a soft milk bone (Odie is VERY picky about treats)

  • My dogs love rolled rawhide bones like this one:

    image

But we only give them to them about once every two weeks or so.

They also love Nylabones, like this one:

    image

But the all time favorite toy at our house is this squirrel:

    image

I had to buy all of them from Gordmans because they fight over them, I even went to the extreme to sew them back up after getting ripped, we have one more that is put up for now.

As far as treats go, we use these milkbones from Sam's Club:

    image

But lately we haven't been giving them any treats we actually use ice cubes as treats, and they LOVE ice.

And a cute picture of Keno:

Thank you!!!  That would be why we haven't seen them, I go to Walmart once a month because I can get my BC cheapest there and even then I don't get past the pharmacy.
