Did y'all hear about the 6 year old...
Who got frisked at the New Orleans Airport?
She's the daughter of an OB/GYN at the small practice I go to. Bless her little heart

Re: Did y'all hear about the 6 year old...
Awful, awful. I understand, yes there are procedures and yes the TSA thinks these pat downs are proper, but the girl was 6 years old. Give me a break that she's a threat. Scan her again if you feel something is amiss.
*When we were in Miami, we just happend to pick a reg security line by chance and I was so thankful we didn't end up in one of the scanner lines, which was right next to us. I told DH they would probably think my IUD was something funky and next thing I know I'm getting groped.

There was a debate about it on my local. I think the general consensus was that maybe if the mom didn't make a big deal the little girl wouldn't have freaked, and that flying isn't a right and you have to follow the rules. Though it was hard for a lot of people to come down to that conclusion
Personally I would take a train rather than have my 6 year old frisked!!!!
ETA okay watching the video I don't think the little girl looks freaked out or anything hmmm
Dani - I agree with you as far as the TSA doing what they should to keep us safe but I feel like when the mom asked for an alternative screening they should have at least done that first. That sort of thing can be super scary and even detrimental for a child when they are taught not to let anyone touch them in those areas.
The mom is a real biotch (small town) so I know why it turned in to such a big deal, but the Dr. is suuuuuuper nice.
Same here!
this is what i was going to write but dani took the words right out of my mouth. certain people aren't above using children to manipulate a circumstance. i'd rather be safe than sorry. the video looked completely harmless.
btw: the parents were on GMA and it said 'bowling green, ky' under their names. i totally thought of you stacey! how ironic you indirectly know them!

When you use to be able to go greet people at the gates way back when... I use to just be scared to waslk through the security area... I can only imagine how the girl felt. But as a parent I would have told her that it was okay that they were just doing their jobs... in some sort of way.
I agree with this.
Re: doing an alternative if the parent requests it: I have to say that if someone was going to use a child to get controban onto the plane, most likely the parent was the one who put it there, so of course they are going to try to get out of doing any extra screening. The TSA agent was only doing her job. As others said, if the mom didn't like it, she didn't have to fly.
Also I agree with whomever said that if the mom had not made a big deal of it while it was being done, the child wouldn't have been nervous. I would have just explained to my child what was going on, and why it was ok that the woman as touching them in their no-no spots this one and only time.

I wish there were more details available as to why she was patted down. I feel like that would change my opinion. Like was this a random check, did something about her make them uncomfortable? Why only her, not anyone else in the family? Why not give the alternative scan, there seems to be more to the story and it is not being released. Whether it was egged on by the parents or not, the little girl had to be terrified and that makes me feel sad for her.
I am totally opposed to a child being made to go through a pat down, but I would also assume in purchasing an airline ticket that it is a definite possibilty. I also would want to know that the airline was doing their very best to protect myself and my family. I have never flown before, so maybe if I were a regular flyer I would also feel differently about the situation.
Exactly T!
I also agree with Dani. While I might not be happy about it if I was the mom, I would assure the girl it was okay. The mom should not be making it this big of a deal. Ben always acts like people are out to get him specifically and that it is their fault. Of course, he made some comment about this. It frustrates me when people are shocked by the TSA doing their job. You know what you are getting into when you fly. It is not like they want to make people uncomfortable and angry.
It also angers me when people walk through with full bottles of liquid and are surprised when they are told that they can not take them. Duh!
