5 years ago today...

Was my first "meet-up" with DH!!  We were set up by a mutual friend/coworker and spent a couple of weeks on the phone before meeting for lunch one afternoon (it happened to be Good Friday, cause we had the day off)  We hit it off right away, and he even sneaked a kiss goodbye :)

I consider our first "date" to be the following week, when he took me out for dinner, which happened to be also be the day after my birthday.  And the rest, as they say, is "history"....<3

What was your first encounter with DH like?

Re: 5 years ago today...

  • So cute!

We met in October (it will be 6 years this fall) and played badminton at a mutual family friend's party. We didn't get set-up on our first date until February. Though I guess technically a year or so before that we were at that family friend's wedding (though I don't remember him) and I suppose since we both knew this family friend since childhood we must have been at a communion/graduation/birthday or other family event together however since he was a BOY and also 10 years older then me I'm pretty sure I stayed far away! So our first real encounter that we remember was badminton :) I beat him.

  • How sweet!

We met on January 5, 2000. That was during the time of the Y2K hysteria, and I was the department head of a technology group - so I was working seven days a week, all night long it seemed during those days.

So one night, I'm walking home from work late, it's pitch dark  (my "single gal" apartment overlooked the harbor in downtown baltimore, about 3 blocks from where I was working at the time) and this panhandler approached me asking for money. So of course, I went into my purse to give him a couple of dollars - about that time another shadow approaches from my blindside, and I was sure that I had been set up on the streets of Baltimore...lol!

Well, it turned out that the second shadow was "Officer Friendly" aka, "my future hubby" :-)

He was working a detail in uniform that night, and he had seen the panhandler approach me and came up to make sure everything was ok. He made the panhandler give me back my money, and offered to walk me to my car. When I told him that I lived a couple of blocks away, he offered to walk me to my door. Of course, he started lecturing me on the dangers of going into my purse in front of strangers, etc. I wasn't paying any attention to what he was saying - all I could think of was how blue his eyes were, and how cute he looked in his blues :-)

So, we get to my building and we were kind of making small talk outside the door, and I decided to go for it - I handed him my business card and asked him out to lunch sometime. He then told me that it was against the law to proposition an on-duty officer (said that with a straight face!) and said he'd think about it! Well, he showed up on my job the next day to give me some personal safety handouts for my office...and of course, at the bottom of my handout, he'd written his phone numbers and a little message "from your personal security officer". We went on our first date the very next week, and the rest, as they say...!

    Fun post!!!

  • OMG, this is great.....So mind you, I was a freshman in high school and DH was a sophomore. It was just after midterms and we (along with a couple other people) would hang out near the band room until we were picked up. DH & I bonded over Monty Python, hah. Then we went on our first "date" to the school play.

And this is an even BETTER story. Our band was sponsoring the Valentine's Day dance and so DH & I were helping setup. During the dance a group of DH's friends tried to drag him onto the dance floor. He resisted SO MUCH that he ended up breaking his ankle. Me, being totally oblivious, asked him to dance, and he DID. Even though he had a broken ankle!

Apparently, my MIL tells me years later that all the way to the hospital and at the hospital, he couldn't stop talking about me. hahahahahaha
