Tax Returns

Anyone got something special planned for their tax return money?

DH and I are happy to finally be completely paying off our credit cards!  We also decided to buy a DSLR camera and the rest is going into savings.

Re: Tax Returns

  • We also payed off some stuff.  I was in the hospital in July/August and even though I had insurance I still had a decent amount of medical bills.  It was nice paying a nice chunk of it off.  Then my DH bought rims for his "toy" car.  He has had the thing for about 8 years and hasn't really been able to do much to it for a long time since he was in school.  We also put a little into savings.

That's exciting that you guys are looking into a DSLR camera.  We want a nice camera too and have plans on buying one with one of DH's upcoming bonus checks :-)

  • We put half in savings & the other half we are using to go to Florida to visit my friend & go to Disney (it's my first time i've never been!)

  • We are saving half and using the other half to go to vegas in may!

  • Our return was tiny because Darren was on unemployment for part of last year. We used it to pay off a credit card... but then our car needed massive repairs, and we had to use the card to pay for it. :(
  • We used ours to get some things done around our house that we had wanted to do since we moved in.  We got a deep, beautiful new sink for our kitchen, got some new curtains, and did a bit of landscaping.  DH's car also needed a new tire, so that went to help us there, too.  We paid down a credit card, and the small amount that was left went to savings.
  • We HAD big plans for our return, but a suicidal deer took out our truck the same day our refund arrived.  So our refund magically morphed into a truck down payment.  DH is much, MUCH happier with his new truck---the old one was not very comfortable for someone who is 6"2".

  • Ours was a wash this year. :-/  We owed roughly the same amount we were due.  But honestly, that's a miracle considering DH owns his own business, and we received stocks and bonds when FIL passed, and we cashed a good chunk of them to put towards the down payment of our house.

Next year will suck, I fear, with property taxes and such.  But we have a good accountant so we'll see...

Sorry for the ladies who didn't get to save or enjoy their funds right away!

  • TinyDancer - Enjoy Disney!!!  I was just there in March (my first time too) and had a blast.  I'm pregnant so I didn't get to enjoy all the fun rides, but we still had so much fun.  I went down to visit my sister who lives in Orlando :-)

ps.  Make sure you stay at Magic Kingdom till about 10 when they do the fireworks show.  It is quite amazing!!

  • Our tax refund came in February, seems like an eternity ago...

We ended up buying a new to us car..., paid off all our cc debt and spent a little on our vacation to LA to see my family.

    It was a sizable refund!

Next year I don't anticipate it will be as large  which will be a bummer but we need the money each month.

  • Boy... you all are doing such fun things!  We put all of ours in savings... we are saving for IVF.  We are ttc through the end of the year.  If we have no luck we will start IVF treatments in January and it is expensive!!!

  • We bought a couch for our basement and used the rest for our travel fund.  We just came back from a cruise (which wiped away our tax refund) and we are going to Germany for Oktoberfest.  We are trying to get Germany out of our system before we have kids.
