Moving...Waukesha..

DH and I are from Janesville. he's getting a promotion and we are looking to move in June 1.   We've just started looking for places..I was wondering if anyone is from there and could help.   We are looking for a 3 bedroom house, 2 car garage, allows pets.  Not more than $1300/month.   I know this is a long shot, but any help is appreciated. TIA

  • I'd love to help if I can! Are you two looking to rent or buy? I'm an agent in Madison but have access to the Waukesha real estate market.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or my own DH! LOL

  • We are looking to rent right now, because we're unsure of exactly where his works office will be quite yet.  Are you involved with rental properties as well?

  • We do own several rental properties, none in that area, though. I know some states have real estate agents that actually help people look for rentals, unfortunately we do not. I can try to find you an agent to help you in the regard but I think you are probably better off saving that kind of money and finding a rental on your own.

If you do need anything, please feel free to ask!

  • I recommend using Zillow or RealEstate.com or other similar websites to start your search.  We started looking for houses that way (we moved from downtown Milwaukee to a New Berlin apartment, and have now just bought a house in West Allis).  There are a lot of great apartments around as well that allow pets and are under $1300/month for parking, pet fee and rent.  I live at Pinewood Creek Court Apartments (15-20 minute commute to Waukesha) and I pay $920/month for 2 garage spaces in the parking garage beneath our building, a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment, and pet fee of $20.  There are lots of similar options I'm sure.

I can tell you as far as home prices go, Brookfield and New Berlin are priced much higher than West Allis and Waukesha in terms of how much house you get.  Waukesha itself has the best deals on taxes and home price for the size of the house.  West Allis is in Milwaukee County, so their taxes are essentially double the taxes of the other cities, which are in Waukesha County.  The house we bought at $154,900 will be $1100/month for 3 bedrooms (technically 4, but one's an office), 2 full baths, 2 car garage, with taxes being $4209/year in West Allis.

I recommend my realtors, Craig and Dana Sommerville, who work for Realty Executives Integrity and they do help find rental properties.   They did a great job for us.  Let me know if you have other questions, I'm happy to help!
