Rental Car Tips

We are spending a long weekend in Denver this summer to vacation and visit a college roommate.  Roommate just had her 2nd child and now has a full house.  We will be staying in a hotel in  Denver and traveling to the burbs to visit.

I think renting a car is our best bet.  However, we have never rented a car before on a vacation.

Share any tips/tricks of the trade you might have for best pricing and best practices.

TIA!

Re: Rental Car Tips

  • I set rental car rates in Denver for two companies, it's my job.   :)

The cheapest time to go is on the weekend, hands down.  You can get rates as low as $20/day and possibly less if there is no convention in town.

Look at rates on Travelocity or Orbitz to compare all companies rates.  If you find one you like, go to that companies website and look at their specials... additional discounts are usually available on top of what you see published.  Google for promo codes too.

Make sure you book early as the rates will creep up the closer you get.

Also, check with your car insurance agent before you go to make sure you are covered in a rental car when driving out of state.   Car rental companies offer insurance at a significant extra cost per day, and you can avoid this if you know your covered up front.

  • Thank you so much Tiffany.  That is very helpful information.

Now can you do your part and get the rates REAL low in Denver in June?!?!?!?

  • Haha, not exactly.   If you want to send me your dates though I will see if I can find you a steal of a deal.

  • Tiffany-  Thanks again.  I plan to book our hotel this weekend and after I do, I will share the dates with you.
