I started talking to my coworker at lunch the other day about running, and she said that she has been wanting to train for a 5k! so i told her about c25k and we are training together now! our goal is the OUC 5k on 12/9 (exactly 9 weeks out from when we started training) and then the OUC half marathon in Dec 09 (or we may do the disney one 01/10 instead b/c i think we are going to train with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society). We just finished week 1 of c25k and I love it! We have been running strictly outside (b/c every runner tells me it is SO much different than running on a treadmill) plus i think that it would be too hard to change your speed quick enough for the interval runs. I found podcasts that go along with the c25k program and we have been using that - its been great b/c we dont need to keep time or anything. It has music that is great to run to and a voice that tells you when to run, walk, etc and coaches along the way.
I highly recommend running outside, esp now that the weather is getting cooler.
We run Tues and Thurs at Crane's Roost Park and then on Sundays we run on our own (i live in Oviedo on Lockwood and that is a great road to run on).
Good luck with the half marathon! we are giving ourselves a full year to train for that, and along the way we are going to run in as many 5k and 10k races as we can
Re: ReadHead/couch25k runners
BIP - That sounds really fun. I had never heard of c25k until recently when someone posted on here. But I love the idea of it, because at the beginning it sounds really do-able, even though I've never ever been a runner.
I mentioned it to my husband the other day, and he's not interested in running because he has bad knees, but he did sound interested in going to the fitness center with me and riding the stationary bike while I run. We'll see. He and I both tend to be big on talk, small on action when it comes to exercise, but you never know, we might do it this time.
Anyways, all that's to say good luck to you ladies who are doing the program, and if I join in I'll definitely let you know.

dang, posted under the wrong name again.... Diane, definitely let me know if you end up doing this... i really don't like to run on a treadmill b/c i get bored, but running outside (to me) is a lot of fun now that the weather is better.
good luck, and let us know if you start the program!
Is this a program of some sort and how can I learn more abou it? I am not a runner, but would like to be! I need to find some form of activity that is good for me and burns calories at the same time. I am just so unmotivated!
