Would you...

let a firm advertise on your house if they paid the mortgage payments for a year?

Re: Would you...

  • We rent right now, and if they wanted to do it on the home we rent and we wouldn't have to pay monthly - absolutely!

On a home we own, i'm not so sure. There's just something about owning a home and picking out paint colors, manicuring the lawn, planting greenery.... i'm looking forward to all those things, and I honestly can't say whether or not i'd give up that vision for a few months of free mortgage.

  • In a heartbeat.. could really use the money right now.  The only exception would be something I felt strongly against-- from hate groups, or even BP.  I also wouldn't paint anything contorversial/offensive.  If it was a company I had no problem with, sure?

  • Probably not - I don't think I would want "we are short on cash" literally plastered on our home. I would think it would also bring down house prices in the neighborhood - which is counterproductive.

  • I'll preface with I didn't actually click on the link but I think I would if it was only for a year and they paid my mortgage. In the grand scheme of things one year is a very short time in your home but saving that money could make a huge difference. Put aside enough money out of your saved mortgage payments to have the side of the house repainted and viola!

I agree with Mel though in that I'd like to have some say as to what the advertisement is and would not want it if it involved certain companies.

  • It's totally tacky, and it probably would bring down property values on the homes surrounding yours.  That said, as long as it was a company I had no problem with, I'm with Mel.  I'd consider it for at least a few months.  If we did that for just six months, we could save nearly $8,000.  Oh the things we could do with that money right now.

We do belong to an HOA though, and I'm pretty sure this would be totally forbidden. :)

  • I would probably consider it for a few months. Since its not permament, I can't imagine it would bring down the neighboring property values that much or for very long. And as long as the company isn't offensive, meh, a few months for a couple thousand, yes please. Also, the company does pay to paint it back to the original color once the contract is up, so its not like you would have so shell out for that.
