First baby purchase (PIP)

Is it bad that I have less than 100 days until this baby arrives and I just now made my first baby purchase? And it's not really even for the baby. Someone tell me I'm not a total slacker. Well, even if I am at least I'll have a cute diaper bag, lol.

Re: First baby purchase (PIP)

  • LOVE it!!!

You are not a slacker.... to be honest there's a couple reasons I waited awhile to buy anything...

If you do it way too soon the pregnancy goes forever. Seriously, makes it seem SO much longer. I also wanted to wait until at least 24 weeks that if, God forbid, baby was born early they had a chance. I was super cautious about that.. and I was scared to "jinx" myself to get it early... Must be mostly me because a LOT of people buy a lot of things early Big Smile

And you have plenty of time... we had the nursery ready but hadn't put anything together (I thought FOR SURE I would go late and my water broke a week early) The day we came home from the hospital my entire family came over and were putting together bouncy seat, swing, etc. It was actually fun!

Enjoy this time, it's super exciting!

  • No worries.  I didn't buy our first purchase till around the same time, and it was a Tigers onesie.  Money was tight for us, so I wanted to wait and see what we got at our baby shower before doing more.  I was around 30 weeks at my shower, so we were late getting stuff.

  • Very cute!!  I don't think you are late at all.  I know we won't buy anything until at least 20 weeks and by then it won't be much.  The thing I am itching to buy is furniture for some reason.  Even though we are moving I just want them! ha

  • We got a skip hop diaper bag too :)

Other than some bottles I got off of gilt for super cheap we didn't buy anything for the baby until 2-3 weeks ago. There's no reason for you to go out and go crazy buying stuff so early, people just do it because they're excited.

  • Good, now I don't feel so bad. The main reason I have't bought anything is because we're going to be moving at the end of June, only 4 weeks before I'm due, which makes me kind of nervous but not much we can do about that now. Plus our house now is about 900sq ft so it's not like we have a lot of room to store stuff. I figure newborns don't need much besides clothes, diapers and food anyway.

Yup!  Heck we didn't finish Genna's room until I was nearly 38wks pregnant.  We had a co-sleeper, hand-me-down clothes from Gabby and one pack of diapers.  lol  I've since bought more diapers.  ha.

And cute bag!  I got a Skip Hop bag this time around, too (the Versa).  I love it!

  • Cute bag!

I didn't most of the stuff until later, because I am a huge procrastinator.  Also, every time we looked at stuff in baby stores or online, I just got overwhelmed.  I put of having to make decisions about what to get until the last possible second.

Of course, since Tyler came early, there were a LOT of things we were scrambling around to get after he arrived, including a car seat.  Tongue Tied

  • Very cute bag!!

I wouldn't feel bad for not making many baby purchases at this point.  If it weren't for DH, I would have waited longer to purchase our baby furniture.  Heh.  He knows I'm a huge procrastinator and he wanted to get the carseat and the furniture asap.  I finally broke down and bought it almost 3 weeks ago.  As of now, the crib is still in the box.  Stick out tongue

Btw, I don't plan on doing any more baby purchases until after my shower on May 14th.  I will also take my sweet time washing everything and putting the nursery together.  Since you are moving a month before you're due, I wouldn't do anything until after the move either.   Big Smile
