Honey Baked Ham is so expensive! Alternatives?

do your local groceries have specials going yet? i don't really want to screw up the ham, so i'd rather buy a prepared one. but Honey Baked is to much $$$.

Re: Honey Baked Ham is so expensive! Alternatives?

  • I'd go to your butcher (not the grocery store), get a ham, and follow the coca-cola ham recipe.  I have never made it, but I have eaten it, and it is supposedly fool-proof to make.

Also - you might try posting on the What's Cooking board - those women know a lot about food.

  • most grocery stores, even walmart have precooked hams ( same thing as a honey baked) and all you do it warm it and put the glaze on. I did this last xmas and everyone raved how good the ham was.

I would just check out your local grocery store.

What kind of glaze did you put on it? I'm looking at Food Networks site and theres quite a few!

  • There's a Smithfield (I'm pretty sure) ham that comes with the glaze already.  It's precooked so you just heat it up for about 2 hours and then put the glaze on it for another 15 min or so.

It's kinda amazing, and we'll be having it for Easter (we get it at Shoprite)

  • I found this recipe for Awesome Baked ham...very easy and sound good to me...

    15lb ham

    1lb brown sugar

    1/2 cup yellow mustard

mix sugar and mustard to a thick paste

spray baking pan, line with foil, put ham on foil, spread paste on top cover with foil tight seal

bake 350 degrees for 4 hours let stand 1 hour...
