IUD Follow up!

So I *finally* got into the doctor for my annual this past week.  Originally, I was supposed to go in a few weeks ago, but I had to reschedule my appt for work reasons. (lame.) Anyway, I sucked it up and went to a 'big kid' clinic. (I've just stayed at the campus clinic for the past few years, because it's convenient.)  Anyway, I went to a really well-rated Women's Clinic, and actually saw the midwife I originally asked you all about.

She was awesome.  Knew tons of stuff, and seemed really well-rounded in her approach.  I brought up the idea of an IUD and she was super excited about it. haha.  I tried to book my IUD insertion appointment iwth her, but she's not in clinic for a few months?  The clinic is a collaberative place, though, so I got another doctor.

SO, for those of you who have one, any tips? She told me to take some Advil an hour before the appt to help with cramping.  (I'll probably take Aleve instead, since that works best for my cramps usually.) She also gave me a prescription for something (I don't remember the name) that will help relax the cervix.  She said it'll make the insertion easier, but could cause cramping.  Anyone else do that?

Re: IUD Follow up!

  • Good for you! I didn't get any medicine before and only took Advil afterwards. Despite a little discomfort, I was fine! It was one of the best medical decisions I've ever made!
  • Thats awesome that everything went well and you have scheduled insertion - I dont have advice since I've never had one but I'd love to hear how it goes after the fact.  I think I'll go the IUD route after we have kids - for now I'm really enjoying the FAM method.
  • I didn't take anything before either but I wished I had.  I had the pleasure of finding out that my uterus is a little "crooked" so getting the IUD inserted was NOT fun!  She was about to give up when thank goodness, she got it in.  I may have taken some Advil after but I lucked out and didn't experience any cramping.  I've had it for almost 2 years now and LOVE it!  My periods are completely gone since having it which is an nice bonus benefit!
