I mentioned in a post below that we are now onto 2 solids a day. Usually a fruit (apple, pear or banana) in the morning and a vegetable at night. Usually 2 oz of fruit in the morning and 4 oz of the veggie. I just wanted to ask a couple of questions regarding that.
1) do I NEED to be giving C oatmeal or barely (I didnt say rice cereal b/c i know there is really no nutritional value)
2) Is 3-4 oz too much per day. He wants it. We do not in anyway stuff this at him. He , in fact, gets mad and pretty much demands more food if we "short" him a couple of oz at night! lol
As of last Tuesday he was at 75th percentile for height and 25th percentile for weight, basically long and lean. His weight has always gained and the doctor was not worried in the slightest about him being in the 25th percentile for his weight.
Any thoughts or research are very much welcomed!
TIA!
Re: mom- question about foods
First of all, LOVE the new pic!!
You should give him cereal, to get him used to different textures if nothing else. It can also help rule out a wheat or gluten allergy. You can also use cereal to cut the taste of some veggies.
As long as he's still eating the same amount of formula/BM then keep feeding him the fruits and veggies. You don't want him filling up on the solids and not on the more dense formula.
Thanks. We actually did cereal for the first thing he ever ate and did it for 4 days then oatmeal then moved onto solids. So we know he has no allergies.
He seems to be taking in about the same about of BM for the most part. When did you start giving Maddie more food than BM/formula.....is it the year mark??
I LOVE the new siggy picture of Conor!!!! So cute!!
The main thing to remember with solids is that he still needs to get MOST of his nutrition from BM or formula until he turns 1. So... if he is taking in the 3-4 oz of solids and still keeping up on getting his required amount of BM/formula then I would say continue on! The solids are just in addition to the BM/formula not a substitute. If he is lacking in the BM/formula you may have to cut him back on the solids. It sounds like he has a great appetite!
Brianna is also in the lower precentile for her weight and the doctors have never been concerned with it either. At her 18 month apt. she was 21 lbs. She's probably gained alittle bit more, but not much since that. She does have a great appetite but she is SO active during the day that she just burns off whatever she does eat. Some 12 month clothes still fit her.. and some 9 month onesies!! = )
Hope that helps Beth! = )
Yeah, right around one year. She was one one solid meal a day at 6 months, then 2 at 9 months, then 3 at a year.?
If he's set with no allergies, then you don't have to include it on a regular basis. At this point I probably wouldn't anyway, just because he's so young that the fruits and veggies will take up less room in his tummy. When we started real meals we'd mix cereal with a fruit or veggie. ??
I have no clue how much solids Austin gets - we just give it to him until he turns away or is no longer interested in eating it...
Usually I give him cereal and a new fruit of veggie mid-morning (if I'm testing for allergies)...if he's interested in what I am eating at lunch I sometimes give him cereal and a fruit or veggie or something in his mesh feeder and then "dinner" he always gets cereal and/or fruit or veggie - sometimes both if he is interested enough, if not, I don't push it and it usually gets dumped down the drain...if Connor is looking for more, I'd give it to him...
Alyssa gets 4 bottles of bm a day, 8 ounces each. Mid-morning, usually after her nap, she gets oatmeal w/ a little bit of fruit mixed in. Before her 2nd nap she gets the rest of that fruit, and then around dinner time she gets a veggie.
Such a cute new picture of Connor!!
