I need help with an idea but dont know exactly how to make it reality....

My fiance and I are getting ready to move in with each other. We are super excited about the progress we are making. He and I both would like to keep our bedroom an oasis and like our space to just come and be alone together. He and I both agree that there will not a television in our bedroom. We both know that we will need a little tv in the kitchen so if one is watching in one room we could watch in the kitchen if we didnt like the show. None the less, he and I love the thought of our apartment bedroom, to be peaceful and like a retreat. We have very little money to go out and buy expensive things but we want it to be nice. Any suggestions for an open and optimist bride?

  • The first thing that came to my mind was paint. A blue might be calming, and it's not too expensive.

  • I am always on the side of recycling and reusing things. Go to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army stores. I have been able to find great accessories for my home there. You would be surprised at some of the wonderful items you can get.Or look on Craigslist or Freecycle.

And, echoing the previous poster, paint is a really affordable way to spruce up your home. Sometimes in the big box home improvement stores, they have an oops cart, where they sell paint at a discount, usually because the customer decided they didnt like the color. I have picked up gallons of great paint for about 6 bucks a gallon. A lot of times, they will retint it for you.

  • Get permission to go through your darling's stuff and repurpose it.  My sweetheart had a this gorgeous print hidden in a closet.  With a new frame in hangs over our mantle.  It is the inspiration piece for our living room.   A pair of cool wine boxes from the cellar now are our etagere to hold towels in the bath.
  • I think not having a tv in the bedroom is a great idea. We have never had one and never felt the need. Actually, we only had one TV for the first 7 years and only got a 2nd one because it came with the house we bought.

My advice to create an oasis is to keep as little stuff out as possible. If you have to store stuff in the bedroom, use enclosed storage, even if it's just a tablecloth draped over the shelves to hid the stuff. A couple plants would add a lot to the ambience too, just stick the ugly pot and drip tray in a cheap wicker basket to make it look nice.
