What do you consider dirty?

Spin off from the post of Spill it: How dirty has your house been?.

I'm just curious as to what everyones opinion is of simple disarray of items, cluttered, dirty or oh my god please do not let my in-laws show up unexpectantly?

Re: What do you consider dirty?

  • If it takes me more than 30 minutes to get my house in shape for a visit, my house is dirty.  In 30 minutes I should be able to do quick bathroom cleanup, stash the paper clutter, wipe the surfaces down and do a quick vacuum to pick up visible pet hair.  If my house is past that point, it's dirty.

This. If a quick tidy-up doesn't do the trick then I consider it messy.

  • Clutter anywhere and spots/stains on dirty looking counters or floors.

Anything else, I can probably live with, including dust... to a point.
