Vacation Book Recommendations Please

What have been some of your favorite books lately?  I'm looking to download a bunch of ebooks for our upcoming vacation.  So far The Book Thief is on my list, but that's it so far.

Re: Vacation Book Recommendations Please

  • I want to get through the Emily Giffin series before the movie comes out for one of them. I hate seeing a movie and then not being able to read the books.

I'm still a fan of anything Jodi Picoult, but for vacation, she's a little deep. I like silly reads for lounging around in the sun.

  • I read the Millenium Series (Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo, etc) while on vacation.  Also some Sherlock Holmes!

I loved the Millenium series. It was really good.  I am a big historical fiction mystery person and love Steven Saylor's Gordianus the finder series. Roman Blood is the first one.

  • I'm not sure how into biographies you are. I don't like them, I find them boring...BUT... I started reading "Always Looking Up" by Michael J. Fox (someone left it at work and I was bored one night) and I can't put it down. It's his second book, so it doesn't focus so much on his experience with Parkinsons, as it does with his life in general. He's very articulate and funny, and he doesn't speak down to the reader. I recommend it, and plan on reading his first book as soon as I'm done with this one.

The only other book I've read recently is "Where the Heart Is" by Billie Letts. There is a movie with Natalie Portman and Ashley Judd based on this book. If you've seen the movie you'll like the book, the movie followed it very closely.

  • The Help is awesome. Emily Giffin series are awesome too - definitely a good light read for vacation. I picked up The Book Thief a few weeks ago but couldn't really get into it... the narration was weird for me, but it's different, that's for sure. I'm reading Delirium right now (YA fiction) and I love it... only about 60 pages away from finishing. oh, and The Hunger Games. you must read them.
