petunia soup, anyone?

so the fence is down, and the hot tub has been removed. i now have a wonderfully spacious deck that i'm really excited about actually using (i've been here eight years and this is the first spring i've actually felt inspired by it). i usually plant some flowers every spring in the front of the house, but this year i decided to add a bunch of hanging pots and regular pots to the back. i  planted petunias and pansies.

on saturday it rained ALL day, quite heavily. on sunday, my hanging pots were big bowls of petunia soup. it didn't occur to me that i had to put drain holes in these pots. they collected all this water. you could barely see the tops of the flowers. ugh!!!

i ended up finding some pots at HD that i like better that don't require any holes (they are the wire ones with the coco lining) so i spent this afternoon replanting everything.

i also planted some strawberries! my first foray into planting food!

  • I'm sort of jealous. I have absolutely no talent at gardening. I wish I was more inclined to learn but I'm just not.

I hope your strawberries turn out!

  • You're lucky they're still alive! I did that with a wine barrel, it was a disaster! Potted plants are such easy maintenance and they'll add so much beauty to your back yard. Yay!

Potted strawberries can be a little trying because you don't get much, but we still have them :-)

yeah they're pretty wilted looking. i'm hoping they'll perk back up. i've had good luck bringing petunias back to life from lack of watering, so fingers crossed they'll be okay!!

  • You're going to have to PIP so we can see! Nice that you've got a project moving that you've had on your list of things to do!
