Re: did anyone else not get their wedding videotaped?

  • I'm sorry.

In our video while the pastor was speaking a train goes through town.  The camera is trained on my face and you see me roll my eyes.  Classic!

  • I'm sorry you regret it MD, that sucks. What has brought this on? Just our upcoming anniversaries?

  • One of my aunts recorded the ceremony and some of the reception but I'll be honest....I haven't watched any of it. I HATE seeing myself on video.

A funny little sidenote about our video...during the ceremony there was this fly buzzing around our heads and it was sort of distracting. So at one point I messed up repeating the vows and everyone sort of laughed so I took the opportunity to quickly swat at the fly. Well I've been told that on the video it looks like I was pretend slapping H in the face. Guess nobody else noticed the fly Wink

  • I wish my ceremony was recorded. However, I'm terribly shy in front of the lens. I'm sure being video-taped would have brought back tragic memories of my uncle chasing me with the video camera at Christmas, and I would have clammed up. Some of it was classic though, like my cursing at J's ring for not going on (literally cursing, in front of my family) and his uncle shouting back "you're the chef, where's the Crisco?!" THAT would have been priceless.
  • We didn't. I haven't regretted it at all.

I do have a little point and shoot video of my bridesmaids reciting a poem together, and another clip of me tossing the bouquet. It's a great clip, because you can see my MIL like 7 feet away, and she starts protecting the cake with her body (that precious cake that she insisted on making) because obviously she was worried I would somehow throw completely to the left and everyone would dive right into that cake. Eye roll. It's good for laughs.

would you have been able to videotape your ceremony if you had wanted to? or did you just decide not to? we too have some video clips from someone who had a digital camera with video. i don't think there's any of us, though. maybe there is. it's mostly interviews with people.

btw, i completely forgot about the cake! can you post a pic? please? and remind me what the back story was? if you post it will you put it in a different post in case i forget to look back here? tia!

Haha, I sure will. Post coming up soon. :-)

No, we couldn't have had the ceremony videotaped. That was actually the main reason why I opted not to have a videographer at all - LDS wedding videos tend to be suuuuuper cheeeeesy.

  • We didn't.  I don't regret it.  We decided not to spend the money on it.
  • We had ours taped, and it is 4 DVD's long... It's literally 6 hours long. We watched it once - it's ridiculous. There is probably over an hour of just people dancing. I complained on the knot, the videographer wrote me a REALLY rude email, then called and apologized for the rude mail, but never offered to fix it.

I am considering sending him an email and asking if he would consider cutting it down for our anniversary. I don't know what he would charge for that though.

don't give him any more of your money! i'm SURE there's people out there who can cut it down for you. like a TON. find someone who can do it for you without the 'tude.

  • we didn't. i'm not sure if i regret it or not. i could totally see us never watching it once. but, also...i feel like there was so much of the party that i didnt get to experience....like all the different stuff everyone was doing and how, as bride and groom, you cant be in a million places all at once. i'm thinking i don't regret it...but if someone had offered it for free...i wouldnt be upset to have it. does that make sense?

  • I'm sorry you regret it, MD!!

We decided not to and then the day of my mom's like "where's the video guy?". Turns out she wanted it videoed...oops.

Luckily H's "unit" at the time was combat camera and it was full of videographers. We last minute assigned one of them to film and he did.

I'm actually really glad he did b/c our video is hilarious. He asked if we wanted the funny edited out or left in and we definitely picked left in! It's so funny that friends ask to watch it when they come over. Some highlights:

    - MOH saying the F word during the toast

    - A drunk friend chasing the DJ lights on the floor

    - Someone going by on a boat and yelling "Don't Do It!!" as we get married

    - More drunk friends doing a dance move and falling over

    Etc., etc.

Glad I listened to my mom!

  • We have nothing on video. I don't regret not having a videographer, but wit would have been nice if someone had at least taped the ceremony. I didn't specifically ask, since I was a wreck and couldn't even think straight. Sigh. I video taped my sister's though.  Mhhm. Without her asking.

  • My BIL set up our little video camera in a corner for the ceremony and part of the reception.  Honestly, we haven't watched it and I'm not sure we ever will.  I'm glad I have it just in case, but I'm even more glad we didn't spend the money on a professional.
  • My dad video'ed it but I have yet to see it and doubt I'll ever get a copy.  The stupid DJ (who worked for the company but wasn't the one that was supposed to be there) didn't think to give the officiant a microphone so I don't know if you can hear it or not.

We got enough pictures that I'm happy with that

  • We didnt hire a videographer. I didnt want one. I dont like videos of myself. However... I asked several family members to video tape it b/c I knew one day I'd like to look back on it. Several family members did tape it and I've yet to see it! I've asked several times and conveniently no one can find their tape!! It really ticks me off. Now I wish I would have spent the money.

  • We didn't hire anyone, but a friend taped the ceremony for us.  He called it the Blair Witch Wedding video.  It is pretty shaky and hard to hear anything, but it is there on camera.  We have only watched it once.  My aunt also took the camera around and got advise and well wishes from our party guests.  She kinda taped the father daughter dance too, but kept shooting my mom's conversation with a cousin during the dance.  It was weird.  Anyway we can't even watch it anymore because the Camcorder's software isn't compatible with our new computer.
  • Sorry, you regret not having a videographer...

we have a dvd of the ceremony (like 8-10 min long).  Only reason we have it is b/c it came with our package.  The photographer for the ceremony/after pics did too....only thing I regret is not hiring an outside photographer to shoot more photos to include shots from the reception and spots around vegas.  It would have raised the price of the wedding significantly so we stayed with our budget - boring!

Luckily my aunt got some great reception shots & we have plenty from the vegas trip.

  • We did.  I'm sorry you're regretting it now, MD.  :(  We probably spent a little too much on it, honestly, but I am very happy we did.  We have watched it three times - after first getting it, then on each anniversary.  J was just saying he wanted to watch it again the other day.  Ha.  Weirdo.  I'm sure we will watch it in May again.
