So I don't hijack JA's thread, where did you get information about nanny sharing in this area?  I've heard about it, but wasn't sure on the specifics.

Also, I didn't realize you were going to TTC soon.  When is that going to happen?

Re: * mary *

  • Some friends of ours (the dad of the kids is Kirk's mentor) who we babysit for actually nanny share, so my information primarily comes from them.

Basically, they live in a neighborhood that has lots of families and many people with small kids.  And with daycare topping $800/wk for an infant, but most families needing 2 incomes because of HCOL, it is essentially completely budget blowing.  Like some of the other ladies have said, it is usually only cheaper to have a nanny if you have 2+ kids.

But, if you have a kid and your neighbor has a kid, then you can probably get a nanny for what it will cost for infant day care for one (nanny shares here are $800ish a week, going up, depending on qualifications and number of kids- the family in question has a 2 yr old and a 5 month old, and they nanny share with a family that has a kid who is almost 2, and they pay the nanny $900/wk for all 3 of them, plus mileage but no benefits, and they have someone do the tax stuff for them).

You get to screen who comes into contact with your kids, the nanny only has 1 commute, your kids are in your home or somewhere nearby, and they're likely to get more individualized attention.  Your child also receives the benefit of socialization with the other kids you nanny share with, and doesn't get the germs of a big center.  So, this is what I think we'll do when we have kids.

We'll start to TTC when medically cleared.  Basically, my doctor was like, "Now or never" about 6 months ago and I simply couldn't deal with it.  So, now I've had time to process, have surgery, and I'll go on a course of evil meds, then we'll see.  Big Smile

You know, we'll probably move farther out when we do have kids, in case you and Patrick want to nanny share Wink

  • You're going to move out further?!  I thought Kirk didn't want that!  I live pretty far from the city.

We'd love to nanny share, it sounds like an awesome idea. Big Smile  My co-worker is paying $1000/month for full time daycare but she lives in Gainesville, so I'm sure it'll be more expensive for areas around me.  I haven't liked any centers near me either.

    How are you feeling now?

He doesn't, and we don't live in "the city", we just realize that we'll need more space than we can afford where we are now.  Move "out" likely means Kingstowne or Springfield, probably somewhere in FFX county since paying city taxes where we live SUCKS.

I feel like crap today.  Crying  I did too much yesterday because my mom is constantly on me about stuff (like having dog hair on my baseboards, a week after I last vacuumed, oh by the way during that time I had abdominal surgery).  I just can't handle her being in my house anymore.  Luckily she left, so hopefully the rest of the week will be more restful.

I'm in a LOT of pain today.  I know that it is going to hurt for a while, I just probably shouldn't be lawyering on vicodin.

  • I hope to move back to FFX county but it probably won't be happening before we actually have kids.  I'm getting impatient about TTC but I know it's a better plan in the long run.

Aw, I guess your mom visiting hurt more than helped huh?  Are you still working?  How long will you be in pain?
