In need of a deep carpet cleaning aid

I won't rent a rug doctor or similar unless I HAVE to.

Background:

We rearranged the furniture in our living room, revealing that DH is not a neat eater/drinker and on the carpet where the couch used to be is a HUGE dark spot. I lightened it a little with oxy powder, but now it just looks weird.

What is your favorite cleaner for carpets?

  • I love Folex....got Sweet Potato baby vomit out of our light beige carpeting.

  • I've used Spot Shot successfully but have heard Resolve w/oxy works good too (which I just bought and haven't needed to try it yet). Spot Shot worked well especially after my husband knocked his coffee off of the faux end table (aka tv tray) a few days ago and our beige carpet is beige again.

  • I don't like cleaners because they always seem to attract the mess back.  I bought a green machine and it's been great for little stains and spills (which are inherent with a kid)
  • This sounds funny, but Nature's Miracle (for pet messes).  It's the only thing I've used where the stain actually stays away.  I've used it on non-pet stains as well.

This made me lol. You learn things being a mom, don't you? That said, we got bright orange cat antibiotic vomit off our mint green carpet with Resolve.

  • Spot Shot or Folex has worked well for me. If you know someone with a Rainbow vac you can use the water extractor with a little cleaner and it will work great! Hoover makes a really good carpet cleaner. My parents have it and all you really need is really hot water and it gets a lot of smells and dirt out of your carpet. We used it in our apartment in it worked great.

  • Folex! We used in our disgusting carpet in our rental house in college. It works serious miracles! You can use it in a carpet cleaner too.
