S/O Washing Clothes

After I get done with this package of Rockin' Green, I'm going to attempt to make my own detergent.

For those that CD or have a lot of clothes washing knowledge, will the soap build-up on the dipes? Also, do you have any good recipes for a powder detergent?

Re: S/O Washing Clothes

  • I don't CD (or have a baby for that matter), so this may not be as helpful. I just started making my own powder detergent and this is the recipe I use:

1 bar Fels-Naptha soap, grated and then blended in a food processor (In Ankeny, found at HyVee but not SuperTarget)

1 c. Arm & Hammer washing soda (In Ankeny, found at HyVee but not SuperTarget)

1 c. Borax (found at both HyVee & SuperTarget) - I think my recipe may be heavy on the Borax b/c I've seen others that recommend 1/2 c. here instead

As long as we get the bar soap shredded finely enough, we've been happy so far.

  • I know some of the ladies on the cd board use the recipe from the eco friendly family blog with no issues. I think your type of water also factors in with build up issues. We have issues with our very hard water. I think I'm going to have to switch to tide for my dipes because we keep having stink issues :(
