trips ideas OR coast, redwoods, Oregon caves

My parents are coming to visit in June and they want to take a 4-day trip or so down to the Redwoods in CA and back. I am looking for cute places to stay and things to see. Maybe some of you have had experience? They're pretty familiar with the North Oregon coast area, so they'll probably just skip that and go down I-5 to get to Yachats and follow the coast from there.

Would Yachats be a good place to stay for the first night? Suggestions? Then in CA, what is a good place? Eureka seems pretty central to most sights but is it nice? And then on the way back they could do another night or so near the Oregon caves before they head back up.

Re: trips ideas OR coast, redwoods, Oregon caves

  • Coos bay/ Charleston has the best beaches on the Oregon coast, bandon is nice also. Yachats is just so so. Eureka is south of most of the redwoods. I would suggest staying at hotel or renting a cabin next to the redwoods in Klamath.

It takes a while to drive down the coast because, it is so curvy. Oregon Caves are in junction city but, there is a place where you can stay in tree houses, I think it's in kerby.   Have fun and give yourself lots of time because, there is a lot to see and 101 and 199 are very cuvy. We came from Eugene and we had a 6 day trip.

  • I have to agree the drive down the coast can be curvy and long. Takmila has a tree house resort (TreeSort) that is unique to stay in. and close to the Oregon caves. It's very close to the CA/OR border and the redwood area is not far away at all and the coast was an hour away.
  • I would stay in Gold Beach and take a trip on Jerry's Rogue Jets!  Don't miss it!
  • Thanks for the tips. I'm still undecided on the OR coast part. I think for CA I'll find them a B&B or hotel in Trinidad CA. That looks like a cute little place. And then on the way back I found some cool lodging in Jacksonville, OR. It's a little bit out of the way from the caves but it sounds really fun.
