There are several types of organic insect repellants on the market, you can buy sprays just about anywhere. To keep birds away, netting will do. To keep squirrels away (this was my #1 problem with my peaches) you'll need LOTS of netting.
I've never seen a squirrel in my yard, just lots of bunnies.
