Should i travel home for Easter?

I am really struggling with this decision! It will cost close to $100 in gas alone to go to my parents house, and I will have to see my IL's (ick :-P). I feel like we should though because my parents have been down here twice since Jovie's birthday helping out with things. Plus, they are doing an adult Easter egg hunt...which means we all beat each other up! Mom is doing supper Saturday too so I don't have to eat and leave Sunday. It has been 3 years since I have went home for Easter....

Is this egg hunt a good thing, or a bad thing?

It sounds like you want to go, so  I would probably go if I were you. I've been b*tching about having to make 3 trips to the ILs this spring (baptism, then a confirmation, then a graduation) for a similar reason - cost of gas and loss of income for my DH who works weekends and can't make up the hours. Ultimately, though, it's family and if we can go, we go because you never know what might prevent us the next time.

  • I'd go. I love spending time with my family and hate having to miss out.

If it makes you feel better about the cost of gas, I've been traveling to Creston on weekends for about a 50-hour stay and H has been traveling to Des Moines on Tuesdays for a 3 hour visit, every week for the past 5 weeks. I don't even want to look at our credit card statements! (All gas purchases go on the CCs.)

  • Even though you'd have to see the IL's, I vote for yes.  It sounds like a fun time with YOUR family.

Last weekend we dropped everything and went home to see my family and friends, which we don't do often for the same reasons....IT. WAS. WORTH. IT.  So, I say go!

  • I would go.  We also have an adult egg hunt at my mom's and it's SO fun!  And maybe you can look at it this way....if you're at your parents for the weekend, you probably won't spend money on food and such that you would at home, so it might sort of make up for some of the gas cost?

  • Oh, the adult egg hunt is a blast! My siblings and I with the SO's total to 9 and mom and dad put $50 and lottery tickets in the eggs, so it is really a race to find the lightest eggs :-). I guess we will go home! After we leave Friday after work, it is 8-9 before we get there and we spend Saturday and leave Sunday...it is always so quick! Plus, finding time to see the IL's sucks because my family is so big and fun with so many kids, none of us ever really want to leave to go out to the farm...
  • I'm glad you decided to go, have fun!

  • Have fun. We are going home this weekend, too, which also means seeing MIL and FIL. We struggled the decision, too, especially since we are going home in 2 weeks and again in 4 weeks for other obligations. I have never not gone for Easter, and I was sad thinking about not going. Now I am dreading dealing with the ILs since MIL's nasty convo about me to DH....

Man, I'd go for that reason alone! lol
