Anyone doing the Baltimore half this year? I'm up in the air. I'm feeling driven to do it but aprehensive that I can - mainly concerned I won't be able to get enough training in.
Anyone know if I can sell my bib if I end up not running it?
Re: Baltimore Half Marathon
If you feel like hearing the whole saga - I would love to run a half this fall. I ran Parks in 2008. I have a base of 3 miles already, so I'm not starting from scratch, I'll just have to start adding miles. Saturday morning long runs won't be a problem, but with work being irritating, I am having trouble getting runs in during the week. I am pretty confident, knowning my own body, if I can't get my short runs in during the week, I won't be able to build up my miles very easily.
Also, for Parks, my longest run was 10 miles and that was a stretch. My goal was just to finish, which I did and I was proud. But, dam if I didn't feel like I was going to die at the end of the race. And that was flat. Baltimore is much steeper.
I feel like I'm making a lot of excuses, but I don't want to run in the dark (read early a.m.) due to some dicy things happening in my neighborhood recently. And, I can't run after dinner - I make it about a mile before I feel like I'm going to puke. When I trained last time, I left work at 3:30 and ran right after work, before dinner. Now, my job has changed and I'm at work until 5 a lot of days, but I can usually get a run in about one weekday a week.
I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of rules against this. I would check out their website.

I'm signed up for both the Frederick and Baltimore half marathons.
I think you can defer your entry to the next year, but not sell your bib.
I think you can also downgrade pretty easily, as long as the 5K is not sold out.
But I say go for it! I am going to try for the half this fall as well. I did it a few years ago, it can get hilly in places but there are literally people lined up along almost the whole route cheering, not like the Frederick half when you're running past cows and a Wal-mart and wondering what you're doing out there...
What about getting a run in during lunch, if you can't possible leave before 5pm, maybe go in a tiny bit early and take an extended lunch. I think having any kind of mid-week runs will help you as long as you are getting your long runs on the weekend. And this is coming from someone who is not concerned with time, just finishing with keeping walking to a minimum.
Do it! I would totally do it if it wasn't unrealistic for me this year.
That was the only half I've done, but the crowd support was the most unforgettable amazing experience and it was totally worth all the sweat and tears.I heard the crowds there are better than any other race. My longest run was 10 miles before the half. The hills were rough, but I did it without stopping (and i am NOT a "real" athelete!)
I did Hal Higdon's novice training and there weren't many long runs midweek, mostly cardio or other stuff. But there were short and moderate runs midweek. Do you have a treadmill?
Nope, no treadmill. I think I decided that I am going to sign up. If nothing else, the almost $100 will be motivation for me. And, I really do have this drive to do it. I have no idea why. It just seems like an iconic race. Ok, it is no NY Marathon, but I have no intentions of doing that!
I CAN do it!
Yay! I will be living vacariously through you then! Keep me posted I would love to hear about it!
