Need things for a 3yo to be involved in!
Ella seems to be getting bored with gymnastics, especially since they do an obstacle course for so long. We have kept her in it for the weekly interaction with others. We are not sure if we will keep her in it this summer (paying $58/month for her to be bored sucks!) And she starts school this fall and will be 4, so we are thinking soccer or karate. The next level of gymnastics (at 4) is $68/month and still includes obstacle course and is only 10 minutes longer. I just want something for her to be involved in that actually holds her attention and won't cost an arm and a leg...we are going to talk to Triad about the 4yo curriculum, but if it involves a ton of obstacle course, we will for sure call it quits there! Thanks!
Re: Need things for a 3yo to be involved in!
The obstacle course sort of annoys me too. And even aside from that, the class is a lot of waiting in line with the class. Waiting for the tumble track, waiting for the bars, waiting for the trampolines, etc. Maya is paid through May, but she will be done then. I asked her if she wanted to continue gymnastics or go back to dance and she wants to take dance, so we will be doing that.
Have you checked out the city of Ankeny parks & rec page? They have lots of neat things for kids like dance, sports clinics, cooking, art, soccer, etc. They are still young for some of them but we are thinking of doing the sports clinic and soccer.
For the summer we have Sophia enrolled in soccer through Grimes Parks and Rec (http://www.grimesiowa.gov/ParksandRecreation/YouthSports/TinyKickersSoccerClinic.aspx), which was $25 and starts at age 3. They also have baseball and a few other activities. We also have her doing swimming lessons through Clive Aquatic Center. I know soccer still had some openings, but I'm not sure about the swimming lessons.
For fall we will be enrolling her in preschool two days a week and dance one night a week. I may also put her in indoor soccer depending on her interest level this summer. I hate to get her too involved, but she is a much happier girl if she is active!
We are actually quitting dance but we love the teacher. She'll take them at 3yrs. The teacher/owner is Miss Evie at Encore Dance Academy. They also teach tumbling.
We're doing soccer through Grimes park and rec also. They also had Tball which looked fun.
I can't remember what age the science center takes kids for summer camps but there's another option and I think the zoo has something similar to zoo tots too.
Grr stupid nest ate my post.
While I don't have a 3 yr old I can give you karate suggestions if you are really thinking about that. DH used to go here...http://www.mydojos.com/about.htm. He loved it and quit only for emotional reasons as his original reason for doing it was to do it with James. But I have seen kid classes there and they are fabulous. Not only do they teach karate they also teach respect and building character. Respect for others, authority and yourself. I know that when this LO is old enough she will be enrolled there.
I'm pretty sure at least MrsReem and I (and maybe LittleBug) are set for Monday/Wednesday at 5:30 June 13-30.
yep!
We did that for both sessions.

I've never taken a class with him, but I've also heard that they have a lot of great programs! They also have a facebook page where they post some of their happenings.
