How do you organize DVDs?

Do you display them in some kind of furniture/shelf?  We have a family room (living room) off the kitchen (open floor plan).  Right now I have all our dvds on a bookcase in the family room.  I don't really want them all on display, but do want them in that room for us to watch when we want.  We have a LOT of them.

What do you do with dvds?  I could use the space where I have that bookshelf for something else and only have the bookshelf because I need a place to put dvds.

My husband has two dvd stands, one on each side of the tv.  I keep mine in a cd case/book that holds 100 discs.  I don't mind not having the case.  I don't like them out on display either, not exactly my kind of decor.

Our TV is sitting on a bookcase.  One shelf in for the DVD player and then the shelf under it has two baskets with DVDs in them and then behind the baskets more DVDs are stacked.  Looking at it, all you see is the baskets and I love the baskets because SD can easily take them out and find the movie she is looking for without making a mess.  They are lined up in the baskets with the titles facing up.

Before that I had them on a bookshelf, and I hated how that looked.  This takes advantage of  wall space so now I can use my bookshelf just for books.

They aren't terribly expensive either, assuming that you have an Ikea around you and you don't need to have them shipped.

We have a TV stand (from best buy) which has solid doors on the front. The only thing you see are the shelves where the PS3 and DVR go. There are also hidden doors on the sides, so all-in-all I have 8 shelves for DVDs.

we had some ikea shelves, then we bought more, then we bought other ones to supplement those...my husband is a media freak.  we finally had to have my dad custom build a huge bookshelf-style dvd storage unit, and we have that next to the television.  everything is in alphabetical order.  my husband wants everyone to see how many movies he has.  he wants to be a filmmaker when he grows up...hahaha

We have two DVD racks and I don't mind them. Eventually, I will be putting them in the CD/DVD books which hold 100+ (or something like that) each and putting their boxes in the attic that way I have them

When we moved last month, I bought one of the cd cases from Wal Mart.  It is the binder style, and holds 350.  I put all of our dvd's in it, execpt for a few (like my Harry Potter movies and complete seasons of TV shows.)  I keep it on a shelf near the tv when we want it, but in the closet if we are "cleaning up".  We have had the cases on display for years and I was so sick of it.  This is one of my favorite things that we've done at our house.

We have few movies for adults, and those are on the bookshelf.  We have a lot of kids' movies and CDs.  We have one CD book for the kids' movies and one for their music and another for our music.  We threw out the cases.

I toss the cases and put them in CD sleeves and then put them in alphabetical order (I'm type A) in something like this, only mine are brown leather.
