Poll: OB/GYN

Thinking of switching my OB/Gyn but not sure if it would bother me to go to a male dr.  I have only been to females for that stuff.  I guess I just feel more comfortable, but a male delivered C and I was comfortable with him.

Re: Poll: OB/GYN

  • I have heard nothing but good things about the one man practice I am thinking of switching to.
  • I love my male gynecologist-- he is a sweet older bow-tie wearing doctor, and actually delivered me (he is my Mom's gyn also...although for his age, he is very hip and up to date on fertility issues, new research, etc).

Its funny-- I always felt much more comfortable with men. For some reason, I felt like women doctors would be comparing themselves to their female patients, since they have the same "parts". Ha, silly, I know.  Anyhow, definitely go with whoever makes you the most comfortable!!

  • I've always gone to a female, but that's very much a personal choice for me, and all of my doctors are female.  I have some sexual abuse in my past, and I'm just not as comfortable with male doctors generally, and especially not the OB/GYN.  But that's just me.
  • OK, I voted female, since my last two OB/GYNs have been female. But, the first one I saw was an older gentleman. And, I've seen one of the male doctors in my current practice when my docs were unavailable.

Honestly didn't bother me at all.

  • i think it's a very personal choice, if you are ok with a male gyn then great. i prefer women but i also had the same gyn for nine years so when i find a new gyn here, it will be weird no matter what. speaking of, i really ought to find a new gyn here . . .

  • I said woman, but only b/c my last 2 drs have been women. A male dr assisted in J's delivery & is currently in practice with my regular ob/gyn (not the specialist I ended up with who delivered N).

I typically prefer male drs, not sure why, but my gp is also a woman

  • i voted female, but a male dr delivered emerson and if my dr retired, i wouldn't have a problem seeing him.
  • I thought I would always want a woman, but I ended up seeing a man quite frequently when I was pg with Lily and liked him a lot. There was another man in the practice who I did not like at all...so really even then it depends on their personality/bed side manner...
  • thanks ladies...The dr. is David Beitile, in Providence and like I said have not heard anything bad about him.  Actually many of the L&D nurses go to him.  My practice is huge, my dr is dropping her OB and I don't like how they just treated my friend and my sister in law.

  • I had a gyno who was a woman and she had no bedside manner. About 6 years ago, when I needed an OB I started going to Dr. Beitle. I was reluctant to see a man but he really is the best! He makes you feel so comfortable. His staff is so sweet and I love that when I call there and say my name they know how I am. haha Dr. B has called me on the weekend and even once when he was on vacation with his family to give me important test results. He rocks!
  • My RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) is a female but my GYN (who will deliver me if I ever get pregnant) is a male.  I love both of them.  My GYN is part of a small practice (3 docs & a NP) & delivers @ Sturdy which is great since I loathe W&I (long story).  My GYN is super sweet, very patient & upbeat.  He did my lap & does a lot of high risk & multiples deliveries; a lot of his patients seem to have fertility or other GYN issues.

  • Well obviously I am slightly biased but I like a man!   LOL!!  I really do like men though, I think they tend to write concerns off less than a female who has potentially "been there done that" does.  I have had many female and males and have always been happier with the men.  Plus I think in general male pelvic exams are more gentle than females!  I do have a female OB-Gyn now but that was because I wanted Matt's practice but obviously couldn't have him.

Side note, I have a friend who goes to the Dr you are considering and absolutely LOVES him.

  • I voted female only because my current one happens to be female, but there are 2 males in the practice and they've all been up in my business.  I honestly don't care.

  • I went to a female gyn when I was a teenager.  Since then, I've had two male ob/gyns.  And I'm very happy with my current (male) doctor.
