Bad mom of the year award goes to....

ME.  I feel so horrible.....yesterday, I was 'watching' Katie and we were getting ready to go visit Matt's parents.  I went back into our room to grab my sweatshirt and Katie kept walking right down the stairs.  Ouch!  She took a pretty hard tumble and I got her and she cried (for like 1 minute).  The good thing is that the stairs zig-zag so it was 'only' 7 carpeted steps that she went down, but picture rolling a ball with arms and legs down-that is what she looked like.

I just had a heck of a night because the nurse advised to get her up every 2 hours and make her say some words and make sure that she is able to focus on me or something.

She seems fine, not a bump or bruise or anything, but my heart sure has a HUGE bruise.  :(

Re: Bad mom of the year award goes to....

  • Oh Julie.  I'm so sorry.  You are not a bad Mom.  I'm glad she's okay.  I'm sure this happens all the time to parents with stairs.  At least they didn't go straight up and down!  Thank goodness for the zig zag.
  • Aw Julie!  Try not to be too hard on yourself...after all, I broke Jos' leg.  I feel your pain, literally!  My heavy heart goes out to you and bump-bump Katie.  You guys are all right!  XOXOXO
  • Oh try not to feel too bad. It happens. Rj literally flew off the beds so many times always head first and he is still ok-at least thats what his Md says and his teachers...hehehe. Stairs happen. Amazingly babies are so resilient. They are so fast at walking now its just amazing. One time Celeste was in her room and next thing I know she was escaping through the door heading for the stairs-Ay Ay Ay. Some days I miss the times when she would just lay or roll on the carpet.
  • I don't think you qualify for bad-mom-of-the-year until you start putting Kool-Aid in her bottle, 'til then I think a tumble down the stairs just reminds you that these little kidlets are surprisingly mobile!
  • I know it is hard to not beat yourself up, but the truth is that these things do happen. I think every parent has a story like that.  The good news is that she is okay.
  • Oh poor you! I am glad she is ok!
  • Hugs to you. ?You are not a bad mom. ?Things like that happen all the time.

    So glad Katie is OK.?

  • This definitely does not qualify you for bad mom of the year. It seems more just like a part of motherhood. My mom left the room for a minute when I was one and a half. I crawled up on the couch, fell off, hit the coffee table, and split my lip. It was bad enough that they had to have a plastic surgeon put it back together. Eh, I'm none the worse for it and I still think I have the best mom.

  • Julie...you are NOT alone. H fell asleep while watching Ella and she tumbled down 9 stairs!!! 9 stairs!!! Thankfully she was fine but still...ugh, wanted to kill him. Had he not felt so bad about it, I think I might have:)

Hang in there. It happens, we just gotta make sure to not let it happen again;) Otherwise next time, Sal will be flying down the stairs...

  • I honestly think kids wait for that split second you aren't looking to make their biggest leaps.  I've done it, and I have 24 stitches from 3 different incendents to prove it. Wink I love my mom, and still think she is the greatest, I would never think she's a bad parent.  It's just a part of growing up, and in the future Katie will think the same.
