You are from the UP? I went to NMU and one of my best friends was from the Calumet area (her DH is from Lake Linden, I'm blanking on the place she is from but it is another small town around there)! That is too funny, I don't see too many Yoopers around here.
I'm not from the UP originally but DH is (Gwinn, near Marquette).
Re: ***kmjarvey***
Too funny! I know it's hard to find Yoopers around here. We don't have our own board. The UP is a great place. I'm from about 5 miles from Lake Linden. There's a lot of tiny little towns up there.
DH is from the Marquette area too - Ishpeming specifically. Have you been back to Northern much since you went to school there?
I think the name of her town was Kiersarge or something like that? I probably spelled it wrong, but it just popped into my head.
I haven't been back a whole lot. I graduated in 2006 and for the first couple of years afterward we lived a little over 3 hours away and visited a few times, now that it is more like 9 hours I haven't been up there at all. I had hoped we'd visit this summer but I'm quickly running out of available vacation time! DH might go up there with his brother sometime, though. It is nice that his parents live there so we always have a place to stay if we do visit.
How about you? Do you make it home much?
Probably Kearsarge... Meaning she probably went to the same high school as me. You've got me thinking now. lol.
I've been down here about a year and a half now. Last year with our wedding and 3 family graduations, I ended up going up there 7 times I've gotten used to a lot of driving. I'm heading up to Calumet in about a month for a friend's bridal shower. We're going to try to do a week up there in August too. That's the time of year I miss the UP the most. Growing up on Lake Superior spoiled me!
Oh how funny! I think she graduated in '99. What year did you graduate? If it was around then I can PM you her name and we should see if you know each other. lol.
I miss UP summers for sure. I really miss hiking in the woods, too. I am jealous that you are going up there! Although not jealous of the 7 trips last year! That is entirely too much driving.
I graduated in '05 so a little later. You should still PM me her name. I might have know one of her younger siblings or something. I'm curious!
It was a lot of driving for me last year. Hopefully we'll cut it to 3-4 this year. Although it always ends up feeling worth it to me when I'm up there!
