Unfinished degree question

A couple years  ago  I was in grad school for network security and stopped (did not earn the degree) when my father past away to deal with  family affairs.  Now to  present day, I am looking  for a new job and this  semster I went back to  school for my MBA at  a  different school. Should I  list my  first grad school on my resume or just have my BS and current grad school work?

Re: Unfinished degree question

  • In my opinion (I don't know that there is a right or wrong answer), I'd put your undergrad and your current grad school work and leave out the program that you didn't finish.  I quit my MBA half way through because my employer would no longer pay for it.  I think it just makes me look like a quitter, so I leave it off.

  • Have you considered going back to the school and checking if you qualify for a certificate?

Also, you can list relevant courses in your resume and just explain they were done for professional development not necessarily with the intention of finishing a program.

  • Just list the undergrad and your current school.

I would never do this. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense to say that you didn't intend on finishing that program. It just looks bad.
