Is this something that is easy to learn?
I'm not looking to make anything super fancy, just hats and maybe a blanket eventually.

Re: who knits/crochets?

I thought about doing that. I looked into the classes, but they are all scheduled during my work days, so that's a no go!
I'm hoping I can "self-teach''. If not, I'll just buy what I'm looking for I guess.. lol
I don't but my friend who is always posting her crochet projects says she used this:

TBH, I think it really depends on the type of learner you are. I'm a very visual learner when it comes to manual things. Tell me how to fix a computer; I screw it up. Show me how; and I remember it forever. That is how I was when I learned how to knit/crochet. I couldn't self-teach with books or videos because I couldn't stop the book/video to ask them what the hell I just screwed up.
I had a friend in college teach me how to knit and I just learned how to crochet this past November (AND I made Yoda not so far after that). I still need help sometimes reading patterns or learning new techniques, but I just bought a pair of size 50 (like a friggen broom handle big) knitting needles so I can crochet broomstick lace--which I will be teaching myself.
Y'know, Michelle, this is just another reason for you to move closer to me.
I knit but I don't crochet. I know how to crochet, but it feels awkward to do it.
I think knitting's pretty easy but I had someone show me. There are basically two stitches, knit and purl, and once you know those there are a lot of modifications that are very easy to pick up. There are a lot of good videos online. You can knit hats, scarves and blankets only knowing the basic knit stitch.
My friend learned to knit while she was in the hospital and someone brought her a book. She couldn't watch tv or videos but she could read, and she's an excellent knitter now. So I think you could easily pick it up.
I want to learn how to knit but crocheting is very easy to learn. It's hard, due to arthritis, but the science of it is easy to pick up.
GL! :-)
