You started shaving either your legs or underarms? Do you think there is an age that is too young to start shaving?
Found out last night that my ten year old niece needs to start shaving under her arms. Her mother doesn't want her to for the following reasons:
-
My niece just turned ten and isn't one of those kids that is ten going on fifteen. (I agree with)
-
Once you start you have to keep it up, once again I agree
However, I think she should start shaving. It's scary how quickly kids are maturing these days. What's your opinion?
Re: How old when. . .
I started shaving in 7th grade, right around the time when kids at school started noticing things like that honestly. It was a Catholic school so I was wearing a skirt every day, so all the girls started shaving around the same time.
I'm assuming I started shaving my armpits around the same time but to be honest I'm not sure when I started shaving those.
10 does seem young to me but if it's obvious that she needs to or if its a point of teasing or something, then I'd go ahead and let her shave.
I think I started shaving armpits before legs and that was 6th grade maybe? I don't really remember...the armpit hair was much darker/coarser than leg so I think that's why we started there. My mother was the one that suggested lol.
I think if the hair is there and the girl wants to, the mom should let her. Girls that age are brutal with teasing with stuff like that...
I think it was 5th grade when I started armpits. I was a dancer, and with wearing leotards armpit hair was very noticeable. I had very fine blonde hair but it was long enough to notice and I was self-conscious about it during ballet. It's kinda funny but my mom was very hesitant at first and she actually helped me "trim" it with scissors very carefully once or twice before she allowed me to shave them.
I started shaving my legs in 6th grade, because all the other girls were doing it... I had a lot of very thick/long but blonde hair on my legs (esp on my lower legs), I was very self conscious about it. I was only allowed to shave from my knees down, because to this day my mom and my aunts only shave from their knees down. They said I would regret shaving my upper legs when I got older... I started shaving my upper legs as well in high school. The hair my upper legs is still fine and blonde so I don't shave my upper legs as regularly as I shave my lower legs, even now.

I think I was 10-11 when I started shaving my armpits. I was on a swim team in the summer, so it was really noticeable (also because my hair was dark). I was embarrassed, but it was actually my mom who asked me if I wanted to start and showed me how.
I forget when I started shaving my legs, but it must have been soon after that.

I began shaving my arm pits when I was in 5th grade. Aside from developing earlier than most girls my age, I was a majorette (baton twirler) and the hair was noticeable when I was in my uniform.
Sixth grade is when my mom caved and let me shave my legs. Like PP said, I shaved only from my knees down and to this day I don't have to shave my upper legs very often.
