Rainbow vac

Anyone have any experience with Rainbow Vacuums? My SIL has one and loves it. They are very expensive -- a worthy investment? I have 2 cats, 1 toddler and a baby on the way, a messy husband, and we are buying an older home that tends to be a little dusty, so I really want a good vacuum.

How is it changing the water rather than using a bag?

Appreciate any advice/insight!

  • I've never heard of this.  How does she like it?

  • We have one and have had it for 13 years - LOVE it!  Have never had a problem with it and if we ever do will not hesitate purchasing another.  They are expensive...it's a bit easier to swallow considering how long we have had it.  Can't lie - the water is gross but it does feel better getting all the gunk out of the house.  Part of the 'demo' way back then was something like 'you use water to clean most things - clothes, dishes, car...why not use it to clean your most expensive investment?'  Made sense to us - maybe we are suckers.  We have hardwoods and carpet - no complaints.
  • My SIL has one and loves it, but I wasn't overly convinced by the demo. We have 90% carpet in our house and I wasn't blown away by the actual vacuum brush attachment. I'm sure the Rainbow is great for purifying the air and cutting down on dust and allergens, but I have a dog that sheds (mildly) and I want something that will really clean up the hair.

  • My DH bought one.  I refuse to use it because I don't want to deal with the canister.  Dragging around a canister while vacuuming does not appeal to me at all.  I also don't want to deal with the gross water.  It's disgusting when he is done.  He takes it outside and dumps it through an old screen.  The lint and stuff gets tossed from the screen to the garbage.

The part about never having to dust again is a load of crock.  I still dust weekly.  It's too noisy to use as an air purifier if you're in the room.  Accessories that normal people need like a stair attachment cost extra (ridiculous, considering the initial cost of the vacuum).

I wouldn't pay full price for one through their demonstrators.  If you're considering it, look for refurbished ones online.  I don't care for the high pressure sales tactics.

  • My sister in law owns one. her husband was a door to door salesman for them for a while. lol. She swears by it. I always laugh a little when they bust it out if someone spills something on their floor, but they love it. They are still making payments on it but they say it's worth every penny. I haven't tried it out to know first hand, but SIL says it works like a dream.

I have an old one, and I hate it. My mil loves them and insisted we have one, so she bought one for us at an auction sale. I find the water to be a pain (especially in the winter, having to trek through knee deep snow to throw it out). I also don't find the suction to be that great on it.

I clean houses and when this rainbow dies, I will be buying a dyson or miele, which I have used at some of my clients houses and I like them a lot better.
