Tampa Ladies?

My H's job is relocating from Fort Lauderdale to the Tampa area in the next 2-3 months. We are lucky enough to be one of the chosen few to get the offer to come!

The office will be in the Riverview/Brandon area? Can anyone shed some light on the area? Where would be the best place to live around here? Any areas to totally avoid?

Its just DH and myself and our dog. We are looking for family friendly neighborhoods though as we hope to add to our family soon. We also have a lot of guests coming into visit so a 3bedroom house would be ideal.

Re: Tampa Ladies?

  • There are a few Riverview/Brandon girls on the board. I am not one of them, but hopefully they will come around and give you some good neighborhood recommendations. It is a nice area though, just from the time's I have been down there!

  • I'm considered to be in the Riverview area. We're off of Hwy 301 and Bloomingdale Ave. We're close to I-75 and the Crosstown which takes you into Tampa. We're not too far into Brandon where we have to fight the Brandon traffic, but we're close to the mall, Wal-Mart/Target and all highways. We love this area.

This is a great area of Brandon, you are close enough to everything but far enough from Hwy 60 which is just a mess!  There are certain neighborhoods to avoid as they are a bit run down (Heather Lakes for instance) but there are a lot of great neighborhoods - especially in the area highlighted above.  There is a new development off of 301 by the Winthrop Town Center that looks really nice, might be worth checking out.

    Welcome to the Bay area!

I have never been to that part of the state. We actually just moved here from NY about 3 months ago so this is all very new to me!

Some people I talk to say its rural, others say its a good place to raise a family so I get mixed answers. If you wouldn't mind would it be ok if I sent you a PM with some questions? I have a bunch of houses saved on the realtor website but have no clue where they are. Also, when you mention Brandon traffic is it only on those major roads?

It all sounds like Chinese to me! I am not sure of any of those roads! But I will definitely write down Healther lakes in my notes of places not to live!

We are looking for a house to rent instead of a condo. But would love a place with amenities such as a pool. Our price point is anything under 1200 and are hoping to get 3 bedrooms for that price but would settle for a 2 bedroom. Is that a reasonable expectation on that budget?

  • I am close to May07wedding the area is pretty nice. Close enough to everything you need but the traffic isnt that bad. I think $1200 is about what you would pay for a 3 bedroom around here. Lake St. Charles subdivision looks like a nice neighborhood but I dont know what rent prices are.

Brandon/Valrico is a great area with young families and is building up all the time. At one point is was "rural" but that was quite a while ago.  It's becoming a popular area as it is close to everything and is cheaper than living in Tampa.

There are major roads in Brandon that were not built for the amount of traffic they see everyday, the number one culprit is Hwy 60 - try to avoid that road at all costs if possible!  When looking at places see where they are in relation to 60/Adamo Dr.  I think $1200 sounds very reasonable for what you are looking for.  I would look at www.floridamoves.com and www.rent.com/brandon to see what you can find.  If you find something you like and aren't sure about it, feel free to PM me and I can try to give you a sense of the neighborhood.

  • DH and I live in Brandon and I LOVE it here. We can walk to almost everything (we live near Providence and Lumsden) and it's still close to Tampa without paying Tampa housing prices. I don't find traffic too bad, but then again I do avoid 60 at all costs.

I think a 3 bedroom house for rent for 1200 is very reasonable.
