How much is commission??

I was just wondering around how much realtors charge for commission in selling a house?

Re: How much is commission??

  • I think it's 3% per agent- I think... some agents have different deals with their brokers as to how much the agent actually receives, but I'm pretty sure it's 3%
  • 5% was taken off the sale of our condo when we closed in July...2.5% to each realtor.  I am looking forward to being on the purchasing end of it, as that doesn't come out of our pockets, but the sellers!

The home we are buying (closing end of November if all goes according to plan) is 2.5% for each agent as well.

  • I *think* that the seller can negotiate the comission with the listing agent. What ever that is if there are two realtors (buyer and seller represented) they split it. 3% seems low 5% more typical.

don't quote me on it but I am pretty sure. Obv. if you give them a higher comission then the realtor is more inclined to market and sell your home.

  • Just to clarify... I think it's 3% per agent, so 6% total.
  • It's negotiable, but remember that they have to split it with the buyer's agent.
  • When we bought, the realtor was charging 6%. But because it was a short sale, the bank made him cut his commission in half.

    It's totally negotiable though.
