Should I share an itunes account with DH?

DH has an iphone (1st version) and I just got an ipad (2).  He doesn't have apps or really have any desire for them, but we use his iphone a lot for photos since our digital camera quit working.  The only other apple product we own is a handed-down ipod mini.

I am sure that I will want apps and books and such, so I would use the account more actively.  In theory, I would prefer to have my own account for that reason.  But, I'm wondering if we should share in order to transfer the photos easily.  Will it be a good timesaver if we share itunes, or are we better off having our own accounts and transfering photos another way (email, photobucket, something else apple- specific I don't know about yet)?  I'd rather avoid buying the camera conversion kit.

Re: Should I share an itunes account with DH?

  • My DH and I have one account on iTunes for his Nano, my classic, iPod touch, and iPad. I love it because it enables us to share the music that I buy (or visa versa on rare instances) very easily and the same goes for Apps. My DH doesn't buy music or at least not very often. But he'll often download the music I buy on to his device.

I can't imagine that using different accounts would gain you anything. It would just be a bigger PIA, I would imagine.

  • same here... DH and I use one account for his iphone, my ipad, and my ipod.  this allows us to add apps to each of them without paying three times.... which from my understanding is allowed if you live in the same home.  we can also sync pics and music without trouble. I agree with PP, I'm not sure what benefit multiple accounts would have for you... even if you use it more than he does. Just don't sync your books on his thing.

  • Thanks for the feedback!  I didn't mention it before but the iphone is partially for work use.  I think that was part of my hesitiation.  However, his coworkers all buy apps and games for their iphones so I was probably over-thinking it.  The itunes is probably linked to a personal account.  I'll confirm that and suggest we share.
  • you can choose which apps to transfer on to the iphone as well... so if you buy something like angry birds (and how couldn't you??) you don't have to put it on the iphone... DH may be a bit jealous but if he isn't allowed at least it wont get him in trouble!
