Started off good. I went to a bar association dinner and met some cool people, then came home and baked a chocolate cake, made vanilla buttercream, got the cake iced and fridged, made a fondant bow, hung out with E watching TV... and then went upstairs to get into PJs and check my email.
At quarter to one, I found out - via email - from my friend's daughter that my friend had died Saturday morning. She was about to turn 65 in May, exactly one day younger than my mom. She'd suffered with Lyme disease for years, but died suddenly of completely undiagnosed lung cancer.
I first met Audrey in the context of my acting classes... she was my teacher who got me hooked. I took her class for 4 years, and she's the one who told me about Bergen County Players and who told me I.was good enough to join and audition. She cheered me on every time I got cast. She's also the one who taught me not to let it hurt my self esteem when I didn't get cast.
I.represented her when she needed to get divorced and when she bought her condo, and then when she sold the condo to her daughter. I represented her daughter's friend when he was accused of domestic violence (and won). I cheered her on when she reconnected with her high school sweetheart, even though the relationship took her to California for most of the year.
Because of the miles, most of our contact in recent years has been email and cards. But she was still a big part of my life. Shiva is Wednesday evening. I can't stand it.
