Ok, so there is that dumb prom movie coming out in a few weeks here, and it is hilarious to me how they make prom out to be "the best day of my life!". Just made me curious about everyone else's prom experiences. Therefore, a poll:
1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years?
2) Did you like your prom date(s)?
3) What was your dress like?
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc?
5) What was your favorite memory?
6) Your least favorite memory?
7) Where was your prom(s) held?

Re: Poll Re: Prom
1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years? I was invited to 4, but only went to 3. I went to my own school's prom and my friend's prom my junior year, and just went to my own my senior year.
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? My sophomore year, a guy invited me to his prom as a friend, and then started dating someone 2 weeks before prom so he ditched me, and I had to return my dress
Junior year, I went with another friend to his prom, and got invited to mine by a "popular" guy at my school, but it ended up being a bust. And senior year, I went with a friend and it also ended up being a bust.
3) What was your dress like? Junior year my grandma made me a goldish/champagne colored dress with a sweetheart neckline and thick straps. It was a sheath dress with a slit in the back and a little train. For the other prom junior year I borrowed a dress from a friend. It was black spaghetti straps with silver designs on it. Senior year my grandma made my dress again. It was ivory with a brocade corset type top with spaghetti straps and a poofy ivory tulle bottom.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? I got my hair done and went tanning, but never did the limo thing, and never got my nails done.
5) What was your favorite memory? I think getting ready with friends was the best part. The anticipation of prom was WAY better than prom itself. Oh, and our school had an AWESOME post prom party with all sorts of stuff like laser tag, ride simulators, giant hot tubs, velcro walls, mini-golf, etc., so going to the post prom party was always amazingly fun.
6) Your least favorite memory? My proms all sucked. Like I said, I got ditched 2 weeks before prom my sophomore year. Junior year, my date left me at post prom and I had to call my parents to pick me up. He was just kind of a jerk. Years later I ran into him at a community festival and he apologized for how jerky he was.
lol. My other junior prom I went with a friend and it was really fun, except my ex-boyfriend (that I was still in love with), was also at the prom with his new girlfriend so that was agonizing at the time. And senior year, my date was a d-bag. He got drunk and kept trying to grope me. It was awful.
7) Where was your prom(s) held? One was at International Market Square, one was at the Landmark Center, and one was at some country club in Stillwater.
BONUS: PIP a picture from your prom.
I am trying to find one....I know I have a few of them somewhere around!

1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years? I only went to my senior prom. I was supposed to go to my junior one but my bf at the time broke up with me a few weeks before (and yes, I thought it was the end of the world).
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? Well, considering I married him, I would say yes!
3) What was your dress like? White, empire waist with crystal beading, satin material. Looking back it kind of looked like a night gown.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? No limo, DH had (still has) a really nice truck that he works hard on
5) What was your favorite memory? Dinner with all of our friends
6) Your least favorite memory? Junior year when I got dumped right before
7) Where was your prom(s) held? River Center
I never went. Never had any desire to. I think my senior year I was actually here in MN visiting colleges (I grew up in OR) during prom.
But, I went to high school in the Pacific Northwest during the grunge years, and I went to a kind of an artsy high school.... The kind of school where people on the debate team were more popular than football players. Formal dances weren't really a big deal among my circle. I went to a few formal dances during high school (not prom), but none of my friends got all decked out or made a big deal out of them.
1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years? I went to both my junior and senior year. I was dating a senior when I was a sophmore but my bugging him to take me did not work
He didn't go with anyone though at least, but did go to the after prom party, which I couldn't go to unless I had gone with to prom.
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? My junior year I went with the bf that I had been with during my sophmore year but more as friends cause we had been on & off since he graduated and went off the college and I was still back in high school. We did have a good time, and at the time I did like him very much and wanted to be back together. My senior year I went with the bf I had for a couple months. I actually considered breaking up with him weeks before prom cause I didn't really like him anymore, but I didn't want to be a b*tch so I sucked it up and went with him (see #6).
3) What was your dress like? Junior year was a long purple dress with thick shoulder straps, empire waist, decorative beeding over the chest and plain straight skirt to the floor. Senior year was a deep navy blue dress with thick shoulder straps, skinny straps criss crossing across the back and diamond like x's on the front.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? I got my hair done both years by my SIL who is a beautician, fresh twist junior year, pinned up curls senior year. I did my own nails. At our school the thing to do wasn't a limo, it was coming in a fancy pickup/car or go all out and come in a tractor! I went in a fancy pickup truck junior year and just an suv senior year.
5) What was your favorite memory? Senior year dancing was probably the best. We had it had a bar that we went to often for bar bands (mainly Johnny Holmes!) and the band was awesome.
6) Your least favorite memory? Senior year between prom and the after prom the bf decided to break up with me!
7) Where was your prom(s) held? Grand march is held at our high school and then we are all bussed together (closed prom) to the place where we eat & dance. Junior year was at a hotel in St Cloud, Senior year was at the Riverside Coliseum in Richmond. Then we are bussed back to the school, given 30 min to change and be back to be locked in at the school for after prom party. (Otherwise our parents are called.)
BONUS: PIP a picture from your prom. None digital, I would have to find them in a packed away tub some where. And I do still have the pro pic in the cardboard frame, the bow ties from my dates to both of them and the commemorative glasses we got both years!
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? Yes. They were both just friends.
3) What was your dress like? Junior year was lavender with wide straps and a little bow just under the boobs. Senior year was black with a corset top and full tulle skirt. There were hand painted pink roses on the corset. I LOVED it. It was from Delia's catalog of all places.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? I got my hair done both years, nails one year. We didn't rent limos. Senior year my date borrowed is grandma's '82 Lincoln Town Car that had red velvet seats. It was pimpin'.
5) What was your favorite memory? Slow dancing with my senior year date. He is 6'-4" and BUILT. I could feel his arm muscles through his tux and totally swooned. It turns out we ended up making out a LOT the summer after I graduated but then nothing came of it. Just lots of kissing. He was dreamy.... *sigh*
6) Your least favorite memory? Waking up the morning after my junior prom in some random kid's house and finding NO ONE there. They had all gone to play football at the park down the street and didn't tell me. It was weird.
7) Where was your prom(s) held? The Marriott downtown with the other high school in town (Bloomington's Jefferson and Kennedy.) It was weird seeing kids there that we hadn't seen since middle school...
BONUS: PIP a picture from your prom. Those pics were taken on FILM (gasp!) so I don't have any on this computer.
Oooh...how about one of my sister's prom pics? This was taken at the group photo shoot behind the now defunct Centennial Lakes movie theater. That was when we were both blond. Now I'm not. :-) eta: This would have been 2004-ish.
1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? 2 What years? junior/senior ('93 & '94)
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? junior - went with boyfriend. it was awkward because he was like 21 and i was 17.senior year - went with just a friend. much better.
3) What was your dress like? i can't remember what i wore my junior year. the photo below is from my senior year. i got it at Cache because i wanted something more "elegant" lol... but really, i still think the dress is kinda pretty.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? no limo for my date and i. some of them did. my friend's mom did my hair. i think i did my own nails. we ate at Jax and it was yummy and fun!
5) What was your favorite memory? the after party up in Hinkley my senior year. people were OUT OF CONTROL!
6) Your least favorite memory? i have none from my senior year. it was a blast.
7) Where was your prom(s) held? honestly, i don't remember. isn't that sad? i think it was somewhere in st. paul.
BONUS: PIP a picture from your prom. - i'm 3rd from left and clearly i thought we were supposed to be showing our garters in this one.
Haha. So awesome! I adore the dyed-to-match shoes! :-)
1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years? I never went to my own prom(s). I actually went to my DH's senior prom though.
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? Yup
3) What was your dress like? I borrowed a friends old bridesmaid dress. It was a greyish type color, semi ball-gown style, spaghetti straps.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? I did get my nails done. My BFF did my hair, and we just drive DH's car.
5) What was your favorite memory? Other than being a nice memory to look back on with my DH, nothing really. There was definitely a reason I didn't go to my own prom. That whole dance scene was not for me. We pretty much took pictures, had a glass of punch, danced to the theme song, and left.
6) Your least favorite memory? Really, the whole thing. It doesn't help that I was actually just under 20 at the time. LOL
7) Where was your prom(s) held? Landmark Center in St. Paul
i know, right? and the gloves! so awesome. i stole this off one of my HS friends FB pages. I'm glad she had it today. most days, i'm just embarrassed to be tagged in it. : )
1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years? I went to my junior and senior proms. I was invited as a date when I was a freshman but we broke up before prom.
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? I went with a group of friends (no 'date') my junior year, which was a total blast! I went with a music friend my senior year, he was nice, but we weren't a couple so we didn't have any pressure and ended up doing our own thing most of the night.
3) What was your dress like? I had a fitted and slightly poofy maroon dress with a black 'burnout' velvet floral pattern on it for my juinor year. My senior year I wore a black, sparkly dress that was more stretchy/form fitting.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? I got my hair done both years, and I think I painted my own nails. We didn't rent limos.
5) What was your favorite memory? My junior prom was my favorite - we all had a big bonfire after prom and just hung out, watched movies, ate pizza. I loved that group of friends, so comfortable to be with!
6) Your least favorite memory? Not least favorite - but maybe the oddest/funniest - my senior prom we went to Hooters for dinner. My prom was different than proms in the twin cities, everyone did their own thing for dinner (most people came to the twin cities, spent $$$ on a nice meal at Kincaids or other similar places) and then came back for the dance. I'm sure we looked like absolute freaks going to Hooters in prom dresses...
7) Where was your prom(s) held? In our high school gym.. fancy!
ETA: To describe how small town my prom was.. the Johnny Holmes band always plays (or at least used to play) my HS prom. Which was basically no different when we went to the next town over's muni-bar to listen to Johnny play on weekends (underaged, of course)

1) Did you go to prom(s)? Yes How many? 3 What years? 04?, 03? 02?
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? At the time, yes. My senior year I wasn?t dating anyone. I had a guy friend who I was pretty flirty with, I thought he would take me but he went with one of my friends instead. He set me up with one of his friends. The guy was ok as a person, but he asked me to be his girlfriend two weeks before prom. I didn?t really want to, but I also didn?t want to be left with nobody my senior year either. That relationship didn?t last long J
3) What was your dress like? My first one was a plain blue strapless dress, my second dress was a strapless pink one with a long train and rhinestones on the back (I never liked it, but my mom did). My senior year, I maxed my dress budget on a homecoming dress so for prom I reused dress from a different formal (we had 3 a year) which was red and reminded me of the dress of Roger Rabit?s girlfriend.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? I always got my hair and nails done. My senior year my parents rented me and my friends a limo ? it took us to the dance and then to a friend?s cabin (a lot of fun, the friend?s parents were there, but didn?t stay in the main cabin).
5) What was your favorite memory? It had to be from said limo, my parents rented the limo so that ?the people they didn?t know? wouldn?t be tempted to drink and drive. The cabin was a few hours away and we had to go to the bathroom, but we were in the middle of nowhere. The driver finally stops at a closed gas station and the girls run behind the building. We come back to see one of the guys trying to sneakily haul a huge bag to the garbage can, he was clinking with every step and the limo driver was just rolling his eyes. I guess he was just glad we cleaned up after ourselves.
6) Your least favorite memory? I had a ?long term? boyfriend for my first two proms. I had a 12 pm curfew on his senior prom. I felt pretty bad for him at the time, but later found out he has some pretty horrific ways of entertained himself when I wasn?t around. I guess that is my least favorite memory.
7) Where was your prom(s) held? I do not remember.
Ha, prom was pre-facebook and I think I had disposable cameras during that time so I have no pictures to post online.

2) Did you like your prom date(s)? Yes. Dating the guy I went with in junior year. Really good friend senior year.
3) What was your dress like? Junior - short black cocktail dress. Senior year - floor length straight blue dress with an open back that hooked like a halter at the neck. Black elbow-length gloves.

6) Your least favorite memory? Junior year just plain sucked. My date spent most of the night staring and obsessing over my friend.

1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years? 1998, 1999
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? At the time, yes, he was my boyfriend.
3) What was your dress like? 1998 Tahari, black fitted cocktail dress, it was to the knee but had a see through, thin layer that was long, it had gorgeous butterflies on it connected by silk ribbons in different light colors. I'd still wear it today and still have it. It was hot.
1999 - a short black strapless dress by Guess. Still wear it
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? Yes, for the 1998 one. For the 1999 one, I wore a bright yellow wig and we went as clubkids because my boyfriend colored his hair bright red before prom. I think it was in protest because he did not want to go.
5) What was your favorite memory? Sr year before graduation they showed a video montage of people and events through the year. They showed my boyfriend and me decked out for 1999 prom with our crazy outfits and we got loud cheers from my peers. It felt nice to be accepted for taking a risk.
6) Your least favorite memory? Sr Prom, afterward we went back to my boyfriends house (he was older) and sort of felt let down that it was all over. I remember thinking "that was it?!"
7) Where was your prom(s) held? At what is now Solera and at a hotel by the MOA.
my read shelf:
1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years? Yes, my junior and senior year of high school.
2) Did you like your prom date(s)? As friends - I wasn't dating either of them.
3) What was your dress like? Junior year - picture Bella in Beauty and the Beast, but ugly. I hate it! Senior year - strapless, white, with some flowers - still really like that one.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc? Ha ha no. Junior year I cost my date 50 cents for the pop I ordered at dinner - wasn't hungry. Senior year we had a picnic at a state park. Things are so different now! I also grew up in a rural area and prom wasn't as big of a deal.
5) What was your favorite memory? I have a picture from my senior prom of my husband and me. We didn't go to prom together, but we sat together and talked for a while (we were just friends then), and someone snapped a picture.
6) Your least favorite memory? Being stuck in the woods by the river all night trying to sleep on an old couch with allergies while everyone else was sleeping and snoring. I wanted to go home so badly!
7) Where was your prom(s) held? At our high school.
1) Did you go to prom(s)? How many? What years?
I went to my senior prom - 1996.
2) Did you like your prom date(s)?
I went with a group of friends. There was another big group of friends that went too, so there was a lot less pressure to have a date. The one friend in our group that had a date kind of wished she didn't by the end of the night because we had much more fun.
3) What was your dress like?
It was this stretchy black thing with silver floral detail. I still have it at my parents house. I loved that dress, but boy hidee, did I have some constrictive pantyhose on.
4) Did you go all out with getting your hair/nails done, renting a limo, etc?
We hung out at a friends house and got ready while watching To Wong Foo. We did each other's hair and makeup.
5) What was your favorite memory?
Hanging out with friends and going to everyone's house for pictures. One of my friends moms had sandwiches for us because we hadn't eaten for hours and apparently there's video of us PIGGING out. People actually danced, and the boat was really fun. Then later we stopped to get junk food and watched Heathers at my house.
6) Your least favorite memory?
My friend's date was just friends, but he wanted to come to my house after prom to hang out. I thought - NO WAY - but luckily, he started not feeling well on the ride home, so that plan fell through. We were all friendly with him, but I didn't want him staying at my house. Not cool.
7) Where was your prom(s) held?
It was on the big Andiamo paddleboat in Stillwater.
I've got my prom pictures, but none in electronic form.

6) Your least favorite memory? the guy I was dating junior year was 2 years older and out of high school (and he went to a different high school), and he almost didn't come because he had been sick (not that sick, IMO). He ended up coming, and he was kind of lame the whole night. We broke up not long after, thank goodness!
