Do you ladies have a cleaning schedule

Do you tackle the whole thing over one day???  Do you do small projects throughout the week??  I need some kind of regiment to go by so it doesn't end up being an all day hassle.

Re: Do you ladies have a cleaning schedule

  • Mine usually ends up being an all day hassle :(  Have you been to Flylady.com?  She has a lot of good ideas!  I want to get into a good routine, esp for when the baby comes, but it hasn't happened yet!
  • i wish i had a schedule...i try to do a room at a time so i'm not overwhelmed.
  • Cleaning schedule??  You're funny.

When I have more downtime with school, I generally try to do one or two big things per day - so Fridays I'll clean the bathrooms and vaccum, Thursdays I'll clean the kitchen good, Wednesdays I'd wash/put away laundry, including changing the sheets, Tuesdays I try and get our office under control, and Monday is a miscellaneous day.  That way I don't end up cleaning all day on the weekends.  I also have a schedule where I'm working from home for about half the week.

In reality, like now, when I'm slammed with school stuff, I do only what I absolutely have to, and usually on Fridays.  My FI is great about running the vaccum, washing and putting up dishes, and laundry, so when I get busy, I just tell him and he picks up on doing stuff.

I tried Fly Lady, and while it was good for a while, once I got really busy again, she made me mad with all her demands.  Stick out tongue

  • I second Flylady.net!!

I just wish I could follow it. I am a believer in organized chaos. :)

  • I don't have a strict schedule necessarily. Rather than focusing on the entire house or entire rooms, I go by task.

For example, I'll tackle the bathroom counters and toilets at the same time. Then, I'll do all the wood furniture/dusting. I clean the showers and bathroom tile at the same time. Sometimes all of this happens on the same day, and some of it over a couple days. In general, everything gets done once a week.

Vacuuming is a little different because I do it more frequently. I vacuum downstairs (where the dogs are) every other day. I vacuum upstairs once a week.

Laundry is always on the fly :) I do think it's easier to give priority to towels and sheets to get them out of the way asap. And cleaning the kitchen is pretty much an everyday occurence. :)

  • Ugh.  I wish.  I hardly have any time for anything but laundry during the week.  Then, usually one day on the weekend I do the whole cleaning like a ad lady thing.  I have flylady bookmarked, but haven't ever followed it....
  • We used to do the whole procrastinate until Sunday, then spend the entire day cleaning thing.

Then when I picked up a second job life got hectic, I got stressed and we decided to hire a housekeeper. She comes every other week and does all the deep cleaning, our laundry, etc.

On her off weeks DH and I do the laundry weekly and the dishes almost daily, and that's about it.

  • I have to keep the kitchen and LR "picked up" daily.  The half bath downstairs gets cleaned once a week.  I usually let the upstairs go during my 7~on at work.  Then when my 7~off starts....that Monday I spend cleaning all the upstairs....and catching up on laundry!

  • I wish I operated on more of a schedule! I have heard great things about Flylady.com, my problem is that I usually can't stick to just tasks, like only cleaning the countertops or whatever. I just like it all to be clean at once, so I guess I focus more on the room as a whole.

I have found that usually on Sunday, I will take a stab at freshening up the whole house. And usually, once a month, I go at it really hard with things like pledging all the wood, dusting blinds, vacuuming around baseboards really good, etc. Twice a year or so, I go after the crazy stuff like washing down the baseboards, cleaning all windows and blinds, cleaning fans, crap like that.

Day to day stuff, if laundry is piling up on me, I try to wash a load during the week...same with dishes. I clean the kitchen and living room nightly. I have a stick vac that I try and run over the tile and wood every few nights....since Monkey's kitty litter and hairballs try to make their way around the house. :)

So....yeah, as you can see, no schedule here! LOL.
