Hi everyone, I'm new to the nest & this is my first post! I really need your help. My husband and I have been married for a month now and have invited about 30 people over for a huge housewarming party involving large amounts of alcohol. It's going to be a great party & is less about the house and more about seeing everyone.
However, I have no idea what type of snacks to have. We are thinking about having 2 or 3 hot ideas and other than that we will need things that can sit at room temperature. Our focus is items that will help to absorb some of the alcohol.
So far we have planned: Queso & chips, cake (since i'm a cake decorator), fruit/veggie tray, basic snacks like pretzels, puupy chow.
Suggestions, please!
Re: Housewarming Party Help
Meatballs are always an easy suggestion. I like to get wings instead and put them in BBQ sauce in a crock pot. You can find the wings in the freezer section cheaper than meatballs. You could do a wing sauce on them too.
Another thought might be to do some shredded BBQ beef/chicken/pork. Put out the little hawaiian rolls so it's more slider sized. You can keep the BBQ warm all night in a crockpot too.
Anything wrapped in bacon is good.
Kielbasa- cut in 1/2 in slices and cook on both sides ( or leave whole, cook and slice) have that with a couple of mustards to dip.
These are not at all fancy, but oh so good. You can make the meat mixture ahead (we use spicy sausage) then top and bake at the last minute

Lastly, for a little bit different munchy this is really good. You can easily toss together early in the day.

I always suggest caprese skewers - they're always the first things to go.
crack dip - it's so "2008", but people seem to really love it.
mh loves when I make feta foldovers (recipe on allrecipes.com), even though I hate them. Guests seem to either love or hate them.
What about italian beef sandwiches in a crockpot with some good hard bread and giardinara? yum

Welcome to the nest
Cowboy caviar's always popular here. DH will make a batch of this for himself, store it in a big tupperware container in the fridge, and you'll literally catch him walking around the house with the tupperware under his arm reaching in with a Fritos scoop. "What?" he says, like it's totally normal lol.
This recipe is party size, so there'll be plenty to go around.
2 cans black eyed peas, drained and rinsed
1 each, red and green pepper
2 cans white shoepeg corn, drained
2 jalapenos
3 drops Tabasco
1/2c red wine vinegar
1 red onion
2 cloves garlic
1 can black beans
1 can diced roma tomatoes
1-2 tbsp sugar
salt & pepper
cilantro
For a hot app, people inhale these bacon-swiss-tomato things.
1 sm can Grands biscuits
2c grated swiss
1 can Rotel, drained
1/2c bacon bits
2 tbsp basil
1 tbsp chopped green pepper
1/2 tsp celery salt
1c mayo
Tear apart the biscuits, stretch thin, and press into mini muffin tins. Add filling. Bake at 375 for 8-10 mins.
