update on IL vent re: new bed in guest room

Here is the OP if you are interested:

http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/51859917.aspx

We were skyping with the IL's  a few weeks ago and they mentioned they were excited about their visit soon. DH told them that we appreciated their offer on a new bed but we'd prefer to leave the room the way it is. He also told his dad that we would give him an extra pair of socks if he needed them (FIL says that his feet hang off of the bed, which they probably do).

I followed up by saying that I had put a lot of time into decorating the room which included painting the walls to match the bedding set and if we got a new bed we would also need to get new bedding, which would be a pain. I also told them that when we have another baby that room will be AJ's and we would have to find somewhere to out the bed.

I offered that we could set up the blow-up mattress (nice double decker queen size) or they could sleep in our bed.

MIL kept saying 'oh no no no you don't have to do that' regarding the offer of our bed, so hopefully she got the message that it would have been inconvenient.

They were overall very understanding and realize that after this visit they will be able to sleep in the queen bed in the basement guest room because they will most likely be visiting without the grandparents.

  • That's great! I'm glad you two put your collective feet down. Yes

that's an extremely valid point! I would not permanently rearrange my house for a one-time guest situation.

  • I would have been extremely annoyed too. You handled the situation really well. When it comes to my in-laws I can never seem to act like an adult. If fact, my queen size futon is on Craig?s list right now specifically so my MIL and SIL can't visit at the same time ever again.

    Genius!
