Moving .... dont know where??

Hi I live in south Florida. I am a kindergaParadiseen teacher and plan on moving with my husband this coming summer.  We are looking at the Conway, Myrtle Beach & Socastee and Charleston areas.  Can anyone give me advice please....  I love the way Charlston looks on Army wives lol, please tell me is the beautiful greenery and cute town just the show, or is that real charleston?  Also liked Mytle beach when we visited last summer but dont want to live all around tourists... Suggestion and help please... Also you teachers suggestions of great schools .. I want to teach K still. Thanks!!

Re: Moving .... dont know where??

  • I lived in N. Charleston and taught in West Ashley (Charleston County Schools) for a year and then in Moncks Corner (Berkeley County Schools) for 2 years.  If you go with the Charleston area, I'd try to get a job in Berkeley County or Dorchester District 2.  Some of the schools can be a real challenge, but there are some decent ones.  And yes, Charleston really is that beautiful. Good luck with your decision!
  • Personally, I would cry if I had to live in Myrtle Beach. I would take Charleston any day. There are a lot of tourists in the Charleston area, but living there outweighs that.

I agree with the previous poster...Charleston County schools are pretty trying. Mount Pleasant might be a better place to try and get a job. Its still Charleston County I think, but the area is much better. Summerville would probably be a good area to teach in too.

Charleston does have some great private schools if you are interested in that route.

  • Charleston is that beautiful!!! Personally I would never want to live in Myrtle Beach. Way too many tourists and it just seems junky to me Indifferent. I love Charleston and we moved here in June from TX. We live in the Mt.Pleasant area which is really close to everything. We are only six miles from the beach, and less than ten minutes from downtown. If you have any questions I would love to help you any way I can.
