What car insurance company do you use?

We currently have Geico but, they treating us like crap so, are getting a new company.  I don't mind pay a little more for a car insurance company that treats us like they are working for us not us working for them. We prefer something local if possible.

What do you ladies use?

  • Uh-oh what did Geico do?

We're with Liberty Mutual. Nothing to write home about.

Well we are step up to pay our car insurance once a month.  Every other month they want us to pay twice in one month (which puts use over budget).  Every little thing they start a new policy for us so, we have never got the months that paid ahead of time. When we start a new policy, then we have to pay a double payment and sometimes that is after we paid a payment earlier in the month.

All of our extra money is going to pay car insurance, we only have liability and don't drive the cars much.

  • Also have State Farm. If you go through a local agent they can help you with everything, which I love, instead of having to call 800-numbers. Highly recommend.
  • That's odd that you've had issues with them, we have Geico and have been really happy with them. Perhaps you can try going through the local branch if you still like their prices...?

They had the best deal when we were shopping around.  And when I was in a bad car accident this year in February, they handled all my claims issues and took great care of me through my medical mess.  The claim manager still calls monthly to check on me and updates me on their medical payouts.

  • We were with American Family for ages until I decided that it felt like we were paying too much. Got a quote from State Farm for a slightly better policy and went with State Farm. All in all it saved us nearly $100/month, for a grand total of $1200 saved annually. WOW. Neither one of us have had any claims since 2003, so we haven't had to really deal with the ins company in one way or the other...
  • A friend introduced us to Cathy Rottle from the Fournier Group. They are insurance brokers. We pay twice a year from our car insurance and have the same company for our house as for our car. Once a year they review our policy and see if they can find a better deal somewhere. So far we haven't switched insurances much but last year we switched from Safeco to Unigard because they were cheaper for the same coverage.

We haven't had any problems yet with our car or home but if there is something that is not urgent I usually email Cathy to ask her about it.

  • We have progressive and haven't had any problems with them. I like their website- easy to use and it is easy to access/update any info. But we haven't had any claims with them, so I don't really know how that side of the business is.

  • we had Nationwide and were extremely happy with them.  We had a claim with them and everything was great, our rate didn't even go up.  Suddenly our rates went up, 3 years after the accident and 2 years after H got a ticket,  so we switched to Progressive and have been very happy.
