So our baby's 1st birthday party is on the day of my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. They are totally fine with it and don't normally do anything for their anniversary anyway, plus this is the first and only grandchild, and the sun rises and sets in his diaper as far as they're concerned.
The theme of his party is a bbq hoedown with cowboy hats, bandanas, western themed banners, cow print balloons and the whole deal. I'm making a tricky 2 tier fondant covered cake with the first layer done in cow print and the second layer an actual shaped cowboy hat.
My question is, what can I do to acknowledge their anniversary without crossing over the theme of the party? They won't want the attention but I still think it'd be nice to do something subtle. They're not mushy people, so photo albums and stuff like that don't fit them, not to mention it's hard to get any pics of them! The reason I described the cake is because that will already be pushing my limits on cake and time for that weekend, so I can't make another one, for instance, as a throwback to their wedding cake design.
Can anyone think of cool ideas not involving cake or photo albums? I really appreciate any help!
Re: DS 1st bday party on my parent's 40th anniversary... ideas?
The 40th anniversary is known as the Ruby Red anniversary. Maybe toast to them drinking ruby red wine after the baby's cake is cut?? Or present them with a bottle of ruby red wine to enjoy after the party??
oh, i hadn't thought of a toast since the barbeque theme will probably mean beer drinkers all day, but a nice toast could be just the trick! thanks for that tip!
my cousin suggested a flower arrangement similar to their wedding flowers and getting a picture of the baby in advance holding a sign that says "Happy 40th Anniversary" and blowing it up for display at the party. i might do that too.
any other ideas?
