Rec a doormat that works?

We use our side door for entry and have a recycled (tires, I think) doormat there to catch dirt and rain etc. from our shoes. The problem is it doesn't work =( No matter how well you wipe your feet, you still end up tracking wet prints up the stairs and across the kitchen tile. Can anyone recommend an alternative that actually works?

P.S. The entry landing barely fits one person, so taking off shoes is not an option. We would probably end up falling down the basement stairs. I bet I'd be first.

  • I've been told that the waterhog line from LL Bean works really well.  I don't have any personal experience w/ them, but here is a link that you can check reviews, etc. on.  GL!

  • Thanks for the link. lovey. I might actually shell out some money and try one. Bonus is that shipping is free! Crash, I'll post an update if it works out =)

Glad to help!  I will also be interested in hearing how you like it and how well it works.  We have the same problem in our kitchen entry but I just never think far enough ahead about buying a good mat.  GL!

ETA:  And if it helps, I've gotten multiple things frm LL Bean and have NEVER been disappointed w/ any of their products.  Now that shipping is completely free on everything they sell, its an added bonus.

  • How about a rug in the entryway? The rubber one outside will get the big chunks off. Then the inside rug can catch the moisture.

  • I was going to recommend the waterhog from L.L. Bean as well. My parents have several and they have held up incredibly well and trap water and dirt of all kinds. The one in their laundry room has held up to muddy barn boots for over 5 years.

I keep reminding myself I need to get one for our new home too...
