Hey Mar. My cat is driving me crazy and I'm sure DH is going to "accidentally" kill him soon. They have a deep mutual hate for each other.
Since we got home from vacation Saturday night he has not left my side - which is normal for when I get home for a day or two. But this has been all week. Anytime I'm in bed and roll over or shift (awake or not) he thinks it's time for attention and headbutts me and whines till I pet him. This is new. He will sit in the hallway and meow during the night to get my attention when he doesn't want to lay in bed with me. I don't get up, I just yell at him to shut up from my bed. This is also new and getting annoying.
And what's more is shortly before we left for vacation he peed on the bathroom rug. He's never done this. He had access to his litterboxes and has only done that the one time. DH found it and was beyond mad. Last night I got into bed and smelled cat pee. I thought he had maybe peed on the mat outside his litterbox and that's what I was smelling. As I searched around for the smell, turns out it was the bed and I was laying in it. It had been done earlier in the day and wasn't soaking wet. He has never done that before either.
He is about 13 years old and when I took him in for a check up in October he was perfectly healthy. I can't figure out if this constant need for attention, meowing, and peeing in odd places is his age, his way of being mad at me for leaivng him for a week, jealousy/anger/something about sensing the baby coming or some combination of the 3. The only other time he peed in weird places was when he had bladder stones but it's not little bits of pee here and there and he's not crying out/screaming like he did then so I don't think it's any sort of infection.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this and how to get him to stop?
Re: Mar - cat question
It could be just a simple UTI, I'd go get him tested for that just to be safe.
Buuuuttt... my guess is it's your hormones. My cat got super clingy around the time my bump got super noticeable. You may not notice how your posture/gait changes but they do, and they can obviously smell the different hormones. It gets worse the larger and more awkward you get. My boys (the husky and pit bull) are so clingy, it's annoying. They're always in the way! My cat smothers me in my sleep, to the point DH moves her because he's afraid I can't breathe, and I dont wake up to move her. (My cat growing up used to sleep curled around my head, so I don't even notice it anymore..) Also you're producing more heat, and the kitties like that too, you're turning into his own personal heating pad. Wait til those bone-y toes try to knead your belly - that sh*t hurts!

I can't stand when they do that! Does he rub the side of his face against you so that his teeth grind against you? That sh!t hurts!!! Mine also get up on my nightstand and knock around the remote or my glasses case or phone. My cats get shut out of the bedroom on the regular because of this.

And yes Tania, his teeth grind against me all the time. He also likes to push his cold, wet nose into the corner of my eye near my nose while I'm sleeping too. I would lock him out but that just makes him whine and cry even more so it's not worth it.
