Re: FFFC

  • Everything my H says or does is irritating the sh!t out of me. I feel really bad about it because he is so helpful and really isn't any different than he was before. It must be me. Maybe my hormones are still out of whack? Every time he opens his mouth I want to yell at him. It's so stupid! I wish it would go away! I also have no interest whatsoever in sex. Yeah, fun times at my house!

  • I have been so so so so lazy lately...

I haven't folded or put away laundry in at least a month, I've been skipping the gym, ugh... Unmotivated is an understatement!

  • I was so mad at DH last night.  He drank to much and was exhausted and was saying mean things to me.  I let him sleep on the couch where he passed out.  I know he has been under a lot of stress worrying about passing his certification exam this week and about getting a job.  I asked him this morning if he remembered last night and he said no.  I told him that he was being mean to me.  He felt so bad.  I understand he is under a lot of stress but I told him it was uncalled for.  He agrees and promised it would never happen again.

My goal this week is to only spend around 50-60 on groceries this week.  We will be eating a lot of sandwiches until DH gets a job.  And I won't think twice about letting DD eat grilled cheese everyday twice a day.

The people I work with in my office annoy the crap out of me, with the exception of one. They don't necessarily do anything irritating, they just annoy me.

  • I think my cousin is about to make the biggest mistake of his life.  He just found out that he's been accepted to American University's law school and is planning to start in the fall.  He lives in FL and could have applied to UF and FSU, but my mom says he didn't because he was convinced that he was Ivy League bound.  He's not exactly the most driven or hardworking person in the world.  He wasn't a stellar student either.  The tuition at AU alone is $44k/year and the cost of living in DC is astronomical.  AU estimates the total cost of attending to be $67k/year.  Cousin is going to have to take out loans for most of this.

In the conversations I've had with him about it, he doesn't seem very clear on his motivations for going to law school.  He's one of those people who says "I like to argue," as a justification.  After hearing from a couple of people who have gone to AU or are going there, they are saying that very few people are coming straight out now with job offers.  The legal market sucks right now and DC is particularly saturated.

I'm not exactly BFFs with my cousin though so I don't think I can say something.  I really do hope that he beats the odds, but I'm going to feel horrible for him if in three years he has zero job prospects and over $150k in law school debt.

Ugh, I hate to read this. The legal market is a mess right now and you're right that many new graduates are not coming out with jobs. Even for newer associates with jobs (like my husband), they have taken pay cuts (my H even got a raise this year and is still making less than he was making 3 years ago when he started), and those loans are just outrageous. I feel like we'll be paying them off for the rest of our lives. My husband's standard advice for anyone interested in going to law school is "don't go to law school." Not to mention my H went into it without a clear plan (he also "likes to argue") and he absolutely hates it but feels trapped in it because of the debt.

Sadly, you are probably right about the whole thing. And in DC? With Georgetown and George Washington there, too? Talk about competition. It's just not a good time to be heading off to law school, especially without a definite plan for it.

  • I'm in a real mood and am struggling to remain professional with one of my co-workers.  It's a good thing I'm not seeing them face to face or I probably wouldn't be able to restrain myself.

  • My confession is that my H interviewed for a job with a firm in Tampa when we were in town at the beginning of the month. He found out last week he didn't get it, and I'm both disappointed AND relieved. As much as I miss my family and would love to be closer to them, we've really gotten used to our autonomy up here. Also, the thought of moving home "spooked us" so much (I guess) we're now entertaining the thought of moving to London. It's a long shot, but it might be fun...

OMG, I would be so completely jealous if you moved to London! That is my favorite city in the entire world! I have been there 3 times and can't wait to go back! I'd love to live there, even if it's just for a year or 2.

I know you and your husband could also testify to the reality that even if you do get a job, you have to be prepared to work 60+ hours a week with very little vacation time.  I know a lot of people who love the law and loved law school but hate being lawyers b/c the tedium of the work and the lack of work-life balance is not what they expected.  I'm just not getting the sense from him that he has put much thought into any of this and he's surrounded by people that are just blowing sunshine at him about it, kwim?

I'm sorry to hear that things didn't work out with that Tampa job.  That would be so awesome if you guys moved to London though!  I like to think that things happen for a reason and you guys will find the opportunity that is perfect for both of you!  You certainly have an exciting life already and I'm sure there is a lot more excitement to come!

I have actually never even been there! My H just gets contacted by recruiters looking for lawyers willing to work in London from time to time, so we started thinking well, why not? It seems like a logical step in our progression...D.C., then NYC, then London. We'll see!

And Kendra, I definitely wish your cousin luck! If he really has nobody (besides you!) around him telling him like it is, I'm sure he just pictures arguing in court and making boatloads of money. He'll figure it out soon enough, I guess! And also, you have a pretty exciting life yourself! I'm excited to see how things work out with you in your new home soon! :)

  • Ok, I'm just going to say it - I don't enjoy being pregnant.  I love my child and can't wait to meet him/her but being pregnant sucks!  I am so beyond jealous of all the people that say, "my pregnancy was easy".  Oh yeah?  Bite me!

Ditto! I used to want a big family, now I know the any way that is happening is through adoption. And even then I'm thinking 5 years old will be the minimum age to consider!

I hear you on this one.  Pregnancy sucked for me too and I hated to hear how glorious it was for everyone else. But the product is amazing :).
