Have you guys ever even heard of this?? I saw the flashing sign on Route 73 N up in Marlton the other day, and then a day or so later I saw one on the expressway south by Mays Landing.
I had to google it the first time to figure out what the heck the alert even was. Apparently it's for when Senior Citizens with bad memories take their car and drive off. It gives the car make/model, color and plate so that if you see them on the road you can report the (likely) lost driver.
How crazy is that?!
Re: Silver Alerts?
My H and I just learned about those a few months ago driving on 295. We saw the flashing message on the overhead sign and I jokingly said "What's that an Amber Alert for old people?" and then I googled it on my phone and found out I was right.
Now my H keeps me updated anytime he sees one, a few weeks ago there were 2 flashing at the same time. Apparently senior citizens and adults with certain conditions go missing a lot which is a bit scary.
I'm wondering if I should've checked the silver alerts for the old lady I got stuck behind the other day, she was going 10-15 mph under the speed limit and could barely see over the wheel.
I was wondering if they are randomly reported by other drivers, or if the families actually call it in when the realize the family member is missing. Maybe both?
It must be a new thing because I have never seen this before and now suddenly I've seen quite a few.
