anyone on here gluten free?

Just curious.  I'm one of those people with chronic GI issues.  Nothing in particular, just blah and nauseous all the time.  I can't correlate it with one food. I was thinking about going gluten free for 2 weeks and seeing if it makes a difference.  Just curious as I'm looking for ideas!

  • I'm not but my mom is.

If you really wanted to get tested for it, I wouldnt suggest trying a GF diet, because it can mess with the test results. The doctor had told my mom its not really great to be on a GF diet unless you need to be.  They would just do a simple blood test at first and if they need to test further they would.

A gluten free diet is actually a pretty relatively healthy diet IF you do it properly.  I don't think I'm celiac but there must be something that I'm eating that is pissing my GI tract off.  I'm not looking to get tested or even a diagnosis, just trying to feel better.  Besides, all the simple screening tests (if positive) also mean you have a pre-existing condidtion that is known for insurance purposes - and that can be a whole different can of worms.

sorry if that came out snarky, i really didn't mean for it to be.  I did some research for my collegiate nutrition class a few years ago on this as well.

  • hi jess,

I was gluten free for a year after being diagnosed with UC and it helped alot. A wheat intolerance is very common. If you have ever experienced exzcema, bloat after eating wheat, lethargy after eating a lot of carbs, you might have an intolerance, so when you leave it out, you don't feel this way.

There are some really awesome wheat free or gluten free recipe blogs out there.

I would call an RD or a nutrition program for a little advice...

    Hope you feel better!

A girl I work with is GF.  She was diagnosed years ago with  diabetes and has always had problems with her blood sugar regulation (she is on a pump).  She recently hwas having very bad stomach issues and went GF.  Oddly, the GF also helped keep her blood sugar in check.  She was just recently checked for celiac and found out that she didn't have it (thankfully).
